  • Stop Police Bullying
Houston PD officers catch a break after being accused and caught brutally beating a suspect. It's time to stand up for what's right and hold individuals, no matter their authoritative position or social status accountable for their actions.

  • Save Public Housing in Peekskill
When will it stop? Residents of public housing in Peekskill, NY face daily violation of their rights and harassment. Private and public appeals have been made for more than TWO YEARS yet Peekskill officials do nothing to guarantee the rights of residents nor protect those who have the courage to denounce the violations. Retaliation and suppression of the democratic process are the City's response. Peekskill's Housing Authority, Mayor and City Council are failing these citizens. We need your help!

  • Petition to Allow Live Street Music in Tarrytown's NY Business District
Tarrytown village code (Chapter 218-1) states that "No person shall participate in any parade, exhibition or the playing of musical instruments upon the streets of the village unless authorization has first been received by the Board of Trustees." A discussion of the matter has been relegated to a Board of Trustees work session. My goal here is to have a discussion with the village Board of Trustees to address this issue and show the support of signatures to allow live street music, aka sidewalk entertainers and artists, in our bustling business district.

  • DNC $500,000 WI request
MoveOn is asking citizens to urge the DNC to help the WI Democratic party for $500,000 to help with the Recall Walker ground game. I proposed in a response that the DNC match, whatever others raise in the next five days, up to a limit the DNC sets. It is called "political cover." Arthur Berney <[email protected]>

  • DOL's Press Lock-ups Policy Could Restrict Press Freedom
The Sunshine in Government Initiative (SGI), a coalition of media organizations that includes the Online News Association, the world’s largest membership organization of digital journalists, is asking the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to reconsider its new Press Lock-ups Policy, which could "inhibit the quality, accuracy and independence of news reporting." Under the DOL’s new policy participants would be required to remove their software, hardware, and dedicated lines from the DOL by June 15, 2012. Reporters would be required to use only government-owned software and hardware. The use of modern news-producing software would be prohibited. All transmission would be via the internet, not via a secure, redundant line. The DOL would own and operate the data lines, internet access and internet connections. As the government grows more concerned about cybersecurity, the proposed policy would create a single point of failure. The letter asks the DOL to reconsider or delay implementing the policy until it receives more input from the public and affected media.

  • Protect religious rights when guaranteeing personal rights
Constitutional rights to freedom of religion may be at risk of dilution unless we carefully draw up laws or amendments intended to extend rights to individuals and groups. Both can be accommodated in regard to gay marriage much the same as objections to abortion are granted to individuals and churches. Providers of products and services must not have to choose between their jobs and consciences.
