The spread of false information is prevalent and damaging, and most of it is aimed at personal attacks for political gain. It is estimated that 45% of people get at least some news from Facebook and half of those get it ONLY from Facebook. Mr. Zuckerberg announced that they will do NO fact-checking during this election cycle. In the absence of that, we must demand a responsible approach.

U.S. democracy is under assault by the self-serving and dangerously distorted "free speech" policies of social media, Facebook in particular. If Zuckerberg is not stopped, specifically by a mass exodus of users of his platform, all future elections could be tainted and their results will be in doubt.

OK Bags Away is a committee formed within the Red Earth Group, Sierra Club. Our goal is to work together to reduce, and hopefully ban, single-use plastic bags in Oklahoma as they pose numerous threats to our health and our environment, and there are plenty of alternatives. Unfortunately, Oklahoma legislature passed a bill to prohibit towns from banning single-use plastic locally. This bill does not say that we cannot voluntarily ban plastic in our state. Therefore, we have decided to commit to asking regional businesses to stop using single-use plastic bags, and we are beginning with Homeland. Many stores have already phased out single-use plastic bags, so we know this is attainable. By signing this petition, you are asking Homeland to eliminate single-use plastic bags in their grocery stores.

A federal court just upheld most of the FCC's 2017 decision to overturn net neutrality. Combined with Mitch McConnell's obstruction of the Save the Internet Act in the Senate, it's becoming clear that the presidential candidates themselves will have to be the ones to restore net neutrality -- by appointing a new FCC that will protect a free and open internet. Everyday thousands of senior citizens,Children and others spend the free time they have picking up litter and basically working as slaves for these big corporations. If I wrote my name on 1000 pieces of paper and sold them to all the people and they all threw them on Pepsi-cos lawn ,they would call the authorities and I would have to pay big fines why not PEPSI-CO? Facebook's Ad policy to allow lie-filled political ads is blatant, anti-democracy propagandist tactics allowing the dissemination of lies. When Biden's Campaign asked FB to remove an ad with false, unproven slander against Biden, FB responded "grounded in Facebook's fundamental belief in free expression, respect for the democratic process, and belief that in mature democracies with a free press, political speech is already arguably the most scrutinized speech there is." Yes, Facebook, and there is a reason for that: the Trump Administration's spreading of lies and false information is at an all-time high. Your help in spreading false information to influence public opinion poisons the public discourse and chips away at our democracy. A democracy should fight against the spreading of lies and slandering. Zuckerberg is off the rails with this.

Since our HOA dues have ONLY been raised once in the past 15 years, the vast majority of Timber Lake residence don’t realize that we are currently running in the DARK RED. With over $600k+ in maintenance and repairs needs and a skim $230k in reserves, the only way to: § protect our home values, § clean our mud-filled lakes, § repair our trail paths, § fill our flower beds, § repair patchy grass, § replace lost trees § and to be the only community with no holiday lights …….is to demand immediate action from our HOA board. When speaking with the HOA board they are overly concerned that raising our HOA dues will upset us. If we as a community are not vocal about our desires to keep Timber Lake beautiful, we are only hurting ourselves and our home values. The NY Post has engaged in racist & bigoted reporting that has victimized communities of color for decades! On April 11th, the New York Post published its front page with the Twin Towers in flames & Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comments taken out of context from a speech earlier this year. This coverage created national hysteria inciting death threats to Rep. Omar as well as fear among Muslim Americans. This kind of journalism is an attack on communities of color nationally and we cannot allow a paper to victimize our communities any longer! The Yemeni American Merchant Association (YAMA) has launched a #BoycottNYPost Campaign in April of 2019 that has led to 2,000 bodega's boycotting the sale of the newspaper as well as a coalition of 30 organizations mobilizing to spread awareness & demand the advertisers divest now!
