  • End sales of toy assault weapons at Target!
Target’s weekly ad on the Sunday after Thanksgiving featured a Nerf gun called a “Fortnite AR-E blaster.”(1) This toy gun looks like an AR-15, the weapon of choice for mass shootings—including the school shootings at Margery Stoneman Douglas HS in Parkland, FL and Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. In these times of horrific gun violence, family-friendly Target should not be selling toys modeled on AR-15s or other assault-style weapons. The US now has mass shootings on a near-daily basis. Children routinely participate in active shooting drills at schools due to the threat of gun violence. Many have seen news reports from shootings, including images of children crying outside their schools while police address the aftermath of a school shooting. Some have been directly affected by gun violence. Imagine those children seeing toy guns at Target that look like the assault-style weapons that are regularly used in mass shootings, packaged in boxes with pictures of smiling children holding the guns. What kind of message does it send to children who fear or have suffered from gun violence to see these “toys” for sale? Imagine a child who comes across a real gun at home or while visiting a friend or relative, which happens with alarming frequency. (2) Will that child who has seen toy guns at Target think the gun is a toy, perhaps leading to an accidental shooting? Imagine a troubled teen who has considered using a gun to injure himself or others? Will seeing the toy guns at Target encourage him or make him think that a real gun is not harmful? Imagine a child playing with one of these toy guns in the yard or a park. Might the police or someone else mistake it for a real gun (especially if the orange tip has been removed) and shoot the child? (3) There may have been a time when most people didn’t think twice about toy guns. But now that mass shootings and school shootings have become routine, no responsible retailer should sell "toys" that look like the deadly assault-style weapons used in those shootings. Guns are not toys. Target holds itself out as a responsible corporation that helps communities. The Target website proclaims: “We’re putting the needs of people, communities and the planet at the heart of how we work today, to help build a better tomorrow.”(4) Target also says it wants “to help all families discover the joy of everyday life.”(5) Selling toy guns that look like assault weapons does not help communities or families; it hurts them. • Fire Tucker Carlson
Tucker Carlson has built his career on his fear-mongering, racist and conservative views. Republicans in Congress and in the media have used "great replacement theory"—an extremist ideology which asserts that white people are being driven out and replaced by non-white people in Western societies. On Saturday, May 14, 2022, a white supremacist gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, murdering ten people and injuring three others others—11 of the 13 people shot were Black. The gunman shared the same logic that Carlson does: that non-white people are an inherent threat to white people. And it's not new from him either. Only three days after the a white supremacist mass shooter in El Paso killed 22 people, Tucker Carlson went primetime on Fox News and declared that white supremacy is a hoax. Conservatives can defend him all they want, but we can see the truth. We can't let Tucker have a platform built on misinformation and disinformation that is getting people murdered. Tucker Carlson and his defenders are complicit in giving voice to these white supremacist and racist ideals. Tucker needs to be taken off the air, and his advertisers need to stop funding hate. Especially now that he is purposefully misinforming Fox News viewers about the rise of white supremacy and relying on xenophobic ideals that will only result in more assault and aggression from white nationalists across the country. I have family members who are Fox News viewers and they are constantly being misinformed. It ends now.

  • Tell Congress: Save Public Broadcasting
The White House just released a budget proposal that would eliminate funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which supports the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). We can’t let this happen.  For 50 years, Americans have turned to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for local news, quality educational programming, and independent journalism without corporate or political influence, no matter where they live. In rural communities with few or no free broadcasting options, the CPB is a critical lifeline for information.  The Corporation for Public Broadcasting relies almost entirely on the federal government for its funding. It’s one of the last remaining U.S. media groups that is insulated from commercial or political pressure -- and in today’s fragmented news landscape, the independent voices it supports are more valuable than ever.  The threat is real: We’ve seen profit-driven outlets cozy up to Donald Trump to boost ratings and ad revenues.  Last year, the president of CBS defended wall-to-wall coverage of Trump, saying that “it may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS” -- because “the money’s rolling in.” NBC refused to part ways with Trump as executive producer of its reality show The Celebrity Apprentice. And CNN continues to try to appeal to Trump by hiring his former campaign officials.  Over the next six weeks, Congress will consider Trump’s request to cut the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and legislators will release their own budget proposal. We can’t afford to lose the unique voices and perspectives that PBS and hundreds of local stations across the country contribute to our public debate -- and it’s time to make sure our representatives know it.  Take action now: Don’t let Trump wipe out public broadcasting!

Too many of our elected representatives act in the interest of corporate America, whose self interest is international, We are finally holding our elected officials accountable. We are watching. It's them-- the corporations or us-- the people. Stand up for the American people or we will act at the polls! We have had enough!

  • Demand a Public Apology or Resignation from Ford CEO Jim Farley Over "Right to Repair" Comments
At its core, the Right to Repair is a consumer rights movement fighting for a simple principle: if you bought it, you own it, and you should have the freedom to fix it yourself or choose who fixes it for you. Over the last decade, manufacturers of everything from smartphones and tractors to cars and gaming consoles have deliberately made their products harder to repair. They do this by gluing components shut, using rare security screws, and—most commonly—using proprietary software locks to block anyone who isn't an "authorized" dealer. The Right to Repair is vital for four major reasons: 1. Breaking Up Monopolies and Lowering Costs When a manufacturer completely locks down diagnostic software and parts, they create a legal monopoly. If you are forced to go to an authorized dealership or Apple Store for every single fix, the manufacturer can charge whatever they want.  The Dealership Premium: Independent mechanics and electronics repair shops regularly charge 40% to 60% less for labor than corporate dealerships.  The "Just Buy a New One" Tactic: Dealerships and factory repair centers often quote ridiculously high repair prices for minor fixes to manipulate you into throwing away the item and buying a brand-new model instead. 2. Supporting Local Small Businesses Local repair shops, independent mechanics, and neighborhood tech-fix stores are the backbone of local economies. When manufacturers lock out anyone who doesn't pay a massive corporate licensing fee to become "authorized," they actively force small business owners out of work. Right to repair laws ensure that your local mechanic can access the exact same diagnostic codes and repair data that the massive corporate dealership down the road uses. 3. Reducing Environmental Waste (E-Waste) We are living in a disposable tech economy. When a manufacturer makes it impossible to swap out a degraded $30 battery or a worn-out $50 gear, the entire $1,000 device or machine gets thrown into a landfill.  Restricting repair leads to millions of tons of e-waste (electronic waste) globally every year.  It also forces the continuous mining of rare earth metals to build unnecessary replacement devices, causing massive carbon emissions. 4. Supply Chain and Emergency Resilience When things break down in critical industries—like agriculture, medical care, or commercial trucking—waiting weeks for an "authorized" corporate technician to travel out with a proprietary laptop can be catastrophic.  Farmers have famously had their entire harvests put at risk because a John Deere tractor threw a minor sensor code that required a corporate software unlock, even though the farmer was perfectly capable of replacing the physical sensor themselves.  Hospitals faced massive crises during the pandemic when proprietary software restrictions prevented their own in-house biomedical engineers from quickly fixing broken ventilators.
