• We say: No "October Surprise." No war with Iran!
Trump is ramping up his hawkish rhetoric and aircraft carriers are moving — we’re left with little choice other than to prepare for an Iran War “October Surprise.” For weeks, Trump’s been laying the groundwork for escalation. On September 14, he threatened war crimes as a response to a since-discredited report about an Iranian assassination plot. Days later, the Navy steamed one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world right past the Iranian coast in an unsubtle show of force. And on September 22, Trump announced new, unilateral sanctions against Iran. The deck feels stacked. But here’s the thing, despite years of fighting and fatigue, we STILL have POWER to safeguard against Trump’s worst possible October Surprise. Congress has the SOLE constitutional authority to determine when and whether the United States goes to war and right now, they’ve got to throw up as many roadblocks as possible — as fast as they can. So let's get LOUD and make sure they hear us when we say: No war with Iran. Not now. Not ever.

  • Hold the Pentagon Accountable for COVID Corruption
The Washington Post reports that Pentagon has funneled almost $700 million of COVID-19 relief funds intended to build up *medical equipment supplies* to massive defense contractors for things like jet engine parts and body armor.  This is corruption, pure and simple — and all of us ARE already paying the price of the Pentagon’s waste. These funds could’ve shored up the severe shortage of N95 masks at numerous U.S. hospitals. Or supported desperately needed vaccine distribution infrastructure. Instead, they were funneled to defense contractors and spent on things like jet engine parts and body armor. There is only one solution: the Pentagon needs to pay this money back. Urge your member of Congress to demand that the Pentagon pay back the nearly billion dollars in COVID funding it misspent.

  • Congress: End ALL weapon sales to Saudi Arabia
President Trump’s recently publicized comments that he “saved” known authoritarian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) of Saudi Arabia from accountability in the wake of Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder are utterly unacceptable. We cannot let Trump allow MbS to act with impunity, nor can we allow an erosion of the checks and balances in our own system of government. Congress has got to stop the Trump administration’s blank check for authoritarians and despots. By halting weapon sales to Saudi Arabia, we, through Congress, can hold MbS accountable — breaking this corrupt relationship apart and removing the firepower he needs to wage war. Sign the petition urging Congress to immediately halt ALL weapon sales to Saudi Arabia.

  • Demand Congress provide real oversight of the U.S. war in Afghanistan
According to recent reports from the Washington Post, the U.S. military has quietly stepped up airstrikes in Afghanistan — increasing civilian casualties and harm — while weakening its own requirements for transparency and accountability. This has meant a lot more people have been hurt or killed. A 10-year old boy lost a hand; a family left impoverished by the killing of its principal breadwinner. The U.S. military denies its role in these devastating incidents, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Endless wars are possible when people refuse to reckon with and account for the suffering they’ve inflicted. The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) holds the power to investigate and expose the truths of this endless military occupation. As we come up on the 19th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, it’s beyond time for the committee to do its job and hold hearings on any U.S. military cover up of civilian casualties in Afghanistan.

  • Tell the Senate: Vote NO on Chad Wolf
Trump’s Acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf reportedly told intelligence analysts to downplay assessments on Russian election interference because they were making the President "look bad." Wolf’s politicization of the most fundamental and non-operations operations of government is the stuff of authoritarian regimes — twisting basic information used to make life or death security decisions just to appease Trump’s vanity. Incredibly, Trump wants to nominate Wolf as DHS Secretary and put him in this role permanently. But no one who believes this is acceptable behavior for the head of a government agency should have the job.

  • Release the Innocent Holy Land Five Prisoners
The HLF5 are five innocent humanitarians who were unjustly tried, and whose innocence is widely accepted by politicians, academics, and human rights advocates around the world; but politics keep them imprisoned, deprived of their families and freedoms. They were tried by the US Government in a case full of injustices, and evidence proving their innocence was not allowed in the courtroom. Their sentences ranged from 15 to 65 years in prison. They've exhausted all legal options, and their only hope for freedom is a presidential order. The Palestinian-American community and the Muslim-American community are pushing for this campaign promise in the strongest terms. ALL people of strong moral conscience, regardless of your faith or ethnicity, should support the freedom of the innocent Holy Land Five. After signing this petition, you will receive an email for our upcoming national call. For details on the case, watch The Holy Land Five documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJJkaWVENTg

  • Twitch: Ban military recruitment now!
The U.S. military is targeting kids as young as 13 while they play video games online. This is a blatant violation of military recruiting laws, which prohibit recruiting people under the age of 16, and is an insidious practice targeting young people who are vulnerable to abusive online advertising. Younger people have not had a chance to develop the skills to properly evaluate the claims of recruiters critically and are vulnerable to manipulation, particularly online. We must act to protect kids in the places they go online so they are not subject to illegal and unethical recruiting practices. Sign now and ask Twitch to ban military recruitment and protect younger users.

  • Tell U.S. Intelligence: Stop Protecting Saudi Arabia’s Assassins
The U.S. Director of National Intelligence is hiding information on an assassination. John Ratcliffe won't publicly reveal who his office thinks murdered Saudi dissident and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi -- even though Congress requires him to do so. And so now Ratcliffe and his office are being taken to court. The Open Society Justice Initiative is suing Ratcliffe and his team. In 2019, Congress passed a measure that requires the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to release unclassified reports on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. But the Office of the Director of National Intelligence still hasn't done so. And the 30-day deadline is long past. To put it simply: Trump appointee John Ratcliffe and his team are violating U.S. law and ignoring the will of the U.S. Congress. And in doing so, they’re bending over backwards to protect the ruthless Saudi dictatorship. The Washington Post frames the situation well: "Mr. Trump is willing to violate U.S. law rather than publicly confirm that a tyrannical Saudi ruler was involved in the murder of a permanent U.S. resident." Please join us and help push John Ratcliffe to comply with the orders of Congress and disclose information related to the identity of Khashoggi’s assassin. U.S. intelligence should not be protecting Saudi Arabia's dictator and his killers. • Tell Verizon Wireless: Stop fueling CBP’s hate and abuse
Every year at the “Border Security” Expo in San Antonio, HUNDREDS of companies feature the “hottest gear” — THOUSANDS of military-grade weapons and surveillance products. And it’s all for sale. Lucky for these vendors, the Trump administration is willing to pay with dollars AND our civil liberties. Trump’s secret police in Portland included Department of Homeland Security agents, who beat and arrested Black Lives Matter protestors with impunity and without cause. This has got to be the LAST straw. Expos like these are one place militarization thrives and we need to shut them down— the arms dealers, the surveillance companies, and the dehumanizing us vs. them rhetoric. All of it. Planning is ALREADY underway for the 2021 Expo. But just like any big industry conference, the Expo is built on corporate sponsorships. So we’ve got to get LOUD and to tell last year’s lead sponsor — Verizon Wireless — if they support this event again, they’re only doubling down on hate and militarism. Tell Verizon Wireless: Stop fueling CBP’s hate and abuse! Make 2020 the last year you sponsor this Expo.
