Our Congress is deadlocked and nothing is being accomplished.

The steps at my old complex I thought were perfectly fine until the middle of one broke and I went falling down the stairs. I ended up not able to walk without a brace on my foot for more than 6months. The owner's brushed me off and told me that there insurance would take care of it, but did not offer any information. This is when I called and got a lawyer involved. I also took my doctor's advice and had an outside company come in and inspect my dwelling. The inspector noticed immediately mold growing behind my walls in the bathroom and pointed out a hole that showed the mold eating the wall. He also pointed out sections of the wall that had been replaced prior to me moving in that had been painted over. There was also a defective seal at the base of the toilet that was defective and leaking under the floor. High concentrations of 2/3 toxic black molds and a low concentration of the third. The city of Oakland specialty/combination services came to the property and noted several violations. But since I am now currently in litigation,the city would only fine the owners until certain repairs are completes. Problem with that is the city wont take my outside agency report and wont send there own people to investigate all of the owners properties. They wont even make him notify the other tenents in the building where I was living that they could be living within toxic conditions related to owners failure to keep his property safe. Owner's of rental properties should by law be required to have an inspection every year to maintain a safe living environment for individuals and families and children and elderly. Prevention is a risk reward that in the end is really a win win for everybody. No one else's child should have to have 2 inhalers,air purifier,humidifier,just to sleep because the property owner hid problems with the apartment I ended up renting from him. My son will be 2 in July and I still tell him I'm sorry because I didn't see what was purposefully hidden from me. Maybe if when I give the landlord 1st last; security; and months rent; he should give me a form that says when the establishment last had an inspection.

Lets eliminate the Electoral College. With modern technology we don't need the middle man anymore. The Electoral College no longer serves a purpose other than to muddy the election process and make some states more important than others.

Our government is breeding 100 puppies a year for military use then euthanizing them instead of shipping them home for adoption.

I have tolerated but not gotten used to the Super Pacs and their Rhetoric ads on Politics and was shocked to see the latest attack ads paid for by the US Chamber of Commerce. I remember the Chamber of Commerce as an entity developed to help broaden the networking base of local and national businesses not to endorse political views. In my opinion, the US Chamber of Commerce could find more productive uses for it's members dues. For instance, sponsoring Employment Job Fairs would help the US Chamber members to higher employees suited to their needs and put job seekers in front of strong community businesses looking to hire. We need an amedment to ensure that Congress is thinking of the people when they make laws. This petition is for a new amendment to the constitution that would state that Congress cannot make a law that they themselves do not have to adhere to or cannot make a law that applies to only them and not to the people.

Knock knock? Who’s there? Your worst nightmare, the Buildings Department and he wants to search your home. He isn’t wearing a police uniform. If he was, he would have to produce a search warrant, obtained only with evidence of probable cause of wrongdoing. Think it can’t happen to you? Think again and you have every reason to be afraid. This is a sweeping trend across America. In financially strapped towns and counties, Building Depts. are sidestepping homeowners’ 4th and 5th Amendment Constitutional rights. Warrantless searches are conducted by building inspectors to find as many violations as possible. Violations include the "Historic review of the property file" which can hold you accountable for work completed on your home that was grandfathered in, done before you purchased it and is documented in building files and on official county property records. Costs can rise to $10,000 or more. Homeowners’ lives are disrupted with short deadlines and court dates. They are put at risk of foreclosure, which would further lower property values. The method being used to increase revenue is a totally unfair and discriminatory backdoor tax. For example, in NY, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman has repeatedly cited the revenue generated by the Buildings Dept. in his State of the Town speeches, starting in his 2005 address: "Our daily operations are generating more revenue. Our Buildings Department brought in over $2 million in permit revenue in 2004, while our Code and Building inspectors, with the help of aggressive prosecution from our Town Attorney’s office, has increased fine revenue some 500% over 2003 numbers." This has been such a successful revenue generator, Nassau County has shuttered half the police precincts in the county while hiring at the Building Dept. They are hiring former police, particularly as Commissioner of the Building Dept. The current ad for the position lists qualifications as a minimum of 20 years in law enforcement and a degree in criminal justice, with no experience in architecture or buildings. This explains why homeowners are being treated as law breakers, but without any of the protections law breakers receive, such as the requirement to be provided with legal representation to defend themselves and the need to show probable cause to get a search warrant to search their homes. People should be concernd about the length of time members of Congress are remaining in office. It creates a situation where the longer they stay the more power they obtain. Also, the lobbyists are able to get close to them. There is no reason that they stay as long as they do. Also, with term limits,there would be no need for pensions.

If Congress were to pass a bill that states: ALL Banking industries personal if wanting to continue doing business, MUST give EACH person a direct contact, email and fax number. Its understood that faxes can be used as legal documents. If WE (Americans) want an equal voice in the mortgage process. This must happen immediately. In our recent history several members of Congress have been convicted of crimes yet still receive the fringe benefits of that office. I propose a simple Petition that states, "any member of congress convicted of a felony forfeits any and all benefits of that office".

The only way the 99% can change legislation is by petition and protest. All corporations have to do is hire someone to wine, dine and gift a legislator under the disguise of junkets, super PACS, and huge corporate donations. We ask President Obama to level the playing field by outlawing professional lobbyists so the Corporations have to get their way the same way the 99% do.
