  • Lambskin condom warning
This is primarily a woman's health issue. Lambskin condoms remain popular (even though they cost 5 times more than latex condoms) because it feels as if one is not wearing a condom. The problem is the common off-label use injures the naive sex partner. These condoms provide zero protection against STDs. The problem is that women seldom read the tiny print on a condom wrapper (in english) before consenting to sex. Women are easily duped into believing that they are protected. This is distinguished from other products used in an off label manor in that the injury occurs to an innocent person. The injury in the instance of HIV can be life-threatening.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield: Stop playing with my medications!
At the beginning of the year, BCBS stopped covering my aunt's compounded medications, which she has been effectively and safely using for years, under the close supervision of her physician. Their solution is to force her to use a stronger medication from a "regular" pharmacy, which is more expensive for both her and BCBS and contains chemicals that could be very detrimental to her health. Even after she offered to pay entirely out-of-pocket, she was told that wasn't an option and that she must use the medication BCBS covers, or none at all. Why is an insurance company given more authority than a physician on what medications are best for patients? Only 2% of the population uses compounded medications, so BCBS is betting that even if all of them speak out, there still won't be enough momentum to push a change. Speak out against BCBS playing with people's health!

  • Don't ax The Children First Program
OK House Bill 1063 would disband a program that sends public health nurses into the home of poor, first-time mothers. As a nurse, I know this program contributes to healthy moms and babies but also cuts the risk of child abuse and neglect.

  • Just Don't Do It
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and PhD student in Health Psychology. My two siblings killed themselves in 1989 and 1993. I want mandatory mental health education and medication side effect training for parents and teachers.I am tired of seeing adults suffer because since they were kids they have been victims of misdiagnosis and over-medication- especially those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I am tired of seeing kids not graduate from high school because they are getting high everyday before school and parents are not being held responsible. I want funding for my "Just Don't Do It" (justdontdoit.us) campagne so that I can teach people what to ask their doctors and DEMAND that suicide prevention be a TOP priority when going to school.

  • In-Home Health Care
My daughter is disabled (so am I). She needs In-Home health care (a "growth industry" of mostly poor, mostly undereducated, mostly women) who are labeled "adult baby sitters". Training has been cut or is non-existent, few states require training or certification, workers don't even have to pass a health test to prepare meals for your loved one. Urge training, health certification, and bonding, for your loved one's safety and for the protection of the workers.
