Kansas: Return the Schwab Children!Honorably discharged veteran, Raymond Schwab, working at the Dept. Of Veteran Affairs in Kansas, requested a transfer to Colorado, so he could pursue cannabis treatment for his PTSD. The state of Kansas responded by taking his children away, and will only return custody if he gives up his legal cannabis treatment, even though he is a Colorado resident with a medical necessity. It is sickening that we repay our veterans by first denying them a safe and effective treatment in the state they reside, and then we punish them by taking away their children when they attempt to move. The state of Kansas should have no legal ground to keep his kids from him any longer.124 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Courtney Hook

Prison Sentences for Drug Offenses? or Funding for Recovery?A close family friend battled with addiction. Years ago, he was arrested and sentenced for possession with intent to distribute. Although he may have had no intention to sell the drug, the amount he had in possession at the time of his arrest led to these charges. After a few years in jail, isolated from family, friends, and social support he was released. My family, his family, and a few friends tried to offer support, but he refused to accept help. He roomed with an old friend and began to isolate himself, we didn't see him for weeks at a time, and he had trouble finding full-time employment and worked in a bar until late at night. Roughly eight months after his release his roommate found him unconcious in his room and called 911. He was not breathing and was rushed to the hospital only to be pronounced dead at arrival. I believe in a fair and just democracy. I believe people should have a second chance and given the appropriate resources to change and attempt a life in recovery. I believe that social support heals and that isolation can worsen mental conditions and addiction. I believe that people have a right to raise their voice to correct an injustice that many individuals have served in the presence of drug addiction and/or social, emotional and physical distress, or mental anguish that are a leading cause of substance abuse.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alderman

Drop All Charges Against Ramsey OrtaRamsey Orta is facing unconstitutional legal punishment for bearing witness to police lethal force. There are several layers in this case where multiple Constitutional rights are being broken: the creation of undo charges as reprimand for filming the police lethal force victim Eric Garner; disestablished checks-and-balances between the court, judge, jury, and police; failure to protect Ramsey as a witness; and the ultimate failure to acknowledge Eric Garner's murder as such named event and that his murderers were police, who should be legally reprimanded. This case affects every citizens' Constitutional Rights.1,006 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by D. VS

Free Tyree ConwayTyree Conway has spent the past 13 years in prison for a crime which he did not commit. On April 26, 2003, Tyree attended a party with his friends, Maurice Johnson and Michael Anderson. During that party, someone pulled out a gun and opened fire, wounding Anderson and killing Johnson. Tyree was convicted of first-degree felony murder based solely on testimony provided by two eye witnesses who were both 17-years-old at the time of the shooting. Both witnesses were under the influence of alcohol and psychedelic drugs at the time of the shooting, although this information was withheld from the jury. Both of these witnesses have since recanted their testimony, stating that the detectives and the prosecutor on the case coerced them into naming Tyree as the shooter. One of those witnesses now states that she was threatened by the prosecutor, who told her that if she refused to name Tyree as the shooter, that she would be charged as an accessory to murder. Both witnesses have now stated, in writing, that they never saw Tyree with a gun. The state has no physical evidence tying Tyree to any weapon, and the weapon involved in the shooting was not found until nearly a year after Tyree’s first trial, which ended in a hung jury. The weapon was found when police arrested another man, for a separate and unrelated charge. Tyree was tried again, and, based off of the coerced witness testimony, was convicted and sentenced to a minimum of 20 years. Police have refused to reopen the case, despite having found the murder weapon in the possession of another man. The window for appeal has closed, due to time limitations, so Tyree can only be freed if the Governor grants him a pardon.419 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Jennifer winn

President Obama: Help end the international war on drugsThe disastrous, brutal, and failed war on drugs has been especially punishing for Latinos in the US and across Latin America. In Central and South America the drug war — fueled for decades by racist United States policy — has led to misery, corruption and widespread violence. In the United States it has led to the criminalization and incarceration of generations of people, mostly for low-level and nonviolent drug crimes; and discriminatory enforcement that sees poor neighborhoods and communities of color more heavily targeted by police despite their using drugs at lower rates than their wealthier and/or white counterparts. This April, world leaders will gather at the United Nations to debate drug policy for the first time in nearly 20 years at an international convening known as UNGASS 2016. The stakes of this meeting are high — the outcomes could further entrench the world in the failed policies of the past, or they could signal the beginning of the end of the war on drugs. President Obama is still very influential internationally. If he were to speak out in favor of common sense drug policy, his voice could help to ensure a strong outcome. That's why we're asking him to address the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on drugs and call for global drug policies focused on public health and human rights, not punishment and criminalization.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Presente.org

Hold the CDC's vaccine division accountable for not protecting livesWhat's happening in Atlanta, Georgia is nothing short of an unethical cover-up—and it's personal for thousands of parents whose children currently have a complex neurological disorder called Autism. In August 2014, Dr. Thompson issued a press release through his attorney stating, “I regret that my coauthors and I omitted statistically significant information in our 2004 article published in the Journal of Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased risk for autism.” Nevertheless, when the CDC scientists published their results in Pediatrics in 2004, they omitted the damaging data, fraudulently declaring there was no risk of autism from the MMR vaccination. Dr. Thompson has stated that as far back as 2001, scientists within the vaccine division of CDC have been aware of a connection between MMR and Autism in children. The effect was disproportionately observed among two groups of children: African-American boys and children who were born neuro-typical and who had met all milestones during the first year of life. Dr. Thompson has requested to testify before Congress about corruption at CDC and has handed Congress over thousands of documents showing widespread fraud in CDC’s vaccine division. U.S. Congressman Bill Posey of Florida requested information from the CDC regarding the study in the past, but the agency refused to hand anything over. Posey released a public statement saying, “The CDC can’t be trusted regarding investigating vaccine safety.” He even went on to say that the “CDC should be investigated.” We must call for an investigation first by getting Dr. William Thompson subpoenaed under oath. The CDC must be held accountable for fraud and corruption, which calls into question the validity of the entire body of research that families, medical professionals and policy-makers rely on when making decisions about the health of children. Once again, the CDC violated the public trust by concealing the link between vaccines and autism in all children.104 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Deborah Johnson

Decriminalize recreational cannabis!Thousands of young people in our state are affected by these outdated laws. We need to move on to the 21st century and demand our local legislators and governor Martinez to take action. We need to follow the lead of Colorado and Washington that have been benefiting immensely from the sales of cannabis. They are putting all of this new generated income, that would otherwise go to a Mexican cartel, and putting it into education and rebuilding their infrastructure. This is exactly what out state needs, being one of the poorest states in this country for decades now, we can take this opportunity and make New Mexico a thriving state for all. Not only can we improve the local economy, but we can stop destroying the lives of thousands of young people that get thrown in prison for having a cannabis "offence". Alcohol has proven to be one of the most dangerous drugs in our country, taking the lives of thousands in our state, yet it is legally sold and regulated. We ask for the same treatment for a much more mild substance that hasn't ever killed anyone. We need common sense laws that aren't based on an outdated and ignorant mentally. Tell your local legislators and governor Martinez to act now because this is exactly what we need in our state!110 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Diego Diaz
