Charge Deputy Ben Fields with Assault!Deputy Ben Fields of the Richland, SC police department is seen on video body slamming a teenage girl for refusing to leave class. This happened in school and in front of other students and the teacher. Turns out, Deputy Fields has a reputation for brutality towards students in Spring Valley High. Criminalizing the behavior of Black students in school does not help them or the school. This is not just about a bad apple, but a bad way of thinking about an entire segment of this society. We must stop the school-to-prison pipeline by ending the use of police to solve normal childhood behavioral issues.119,155 of 200,000 SignaturesCreated by Alix Shabazz

DEATH OF UNARMED MAN IN POLICE CUSTODY IN MAY, 2014 NOT MADE PUBLIC BY POLICEJames Greer, an unarmed, brown, 46-year-old grandfather, was pulled over by Hayward, California police and administered a field sobriety test in May, 2014. Because of a medical condition, his 380-pound weight, and his apparent drug intoxication, Greer could not comply with the officers’ orders to place his hands behind his back and to lie on the ground. A struggle ensued, Greer was tased three times, and he was put in a straightjacket-like full-body restraint. Then he died. Even though Hayward PD sends out many news advisories for subjects ranging from missing persons to homicides, they never disclosed this death publicly, nor was it independently investigated by the District Attorney’s office. The Sheriff/Coroner ruled Greer’s death an accident, with the cause listed as “PCP intoxication associated with physical exertion,” even though there is ample evidence that chest or neck compression during constraint, especially during an encounter with police, often leads to a condition known as Excited Delirium Syndrome, which leads to a few hundred deaths each year in North America. An expert in the field stated, “People literally exhaust themselves to death.” A spokesperson for the Alameda County District Attorney’s office said they review officer-involved deaths only when they are from gunshots, per an agreement they have with county police chiefs, and would only review a restraint-related death if requested by law enforcement. We call for a full, public airing of these policies by the agencies named, including policy revisions as necessary to provide safety and justice for all people, as well as satisfying the public’s right to know how their law enforcement agencies are handling dangerous interactions with the public, and to know the results of police-involved-death investigations. In the post-Ferguson world we now live in, pre-Ferguson policies are not sufficient, and best practices call for forums in which public input is sought with regard to the policies.3,000 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Frank Burton

St. Louis Church Arsons: Hate Crimes? My petition is about the need to take the church arsons outside of Ferguson, MO seriously and investigate them as hate crimes. Although I don't live in Missouri, as a humanist and a Jew, I feel that we are all responsible for making the world a better place and that hate crimes always need to be investigated with rigor.292 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Alice C Selfridge

Fire Palm Beach Gardens Officer Nouman K. RajaOn October 18th, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Corey Jones was sitting in his vehicle on an exit ramp off of I-95 awaiting road side assistance because his car broke down as he was leaving a gig as a musician. Officer Nouman K. Raja who was in plain clothes in an unmarked van approached Corey's car with his lights turned off and driving near the drivers front side. Officer Raja exited the vehicle and approached Corey in a very unprofessional way and created a hostile situation and ultimately shot at Corey 6 times striking him 3 times and killing him. Corey was legally armed with a firearm and never fired a shot as he ran for his life to no avail. Corey was a peaceful young man who lost his life simply because his car broke down. Officer Raja needs to be fired from Palm Beach Gardens Police Department and Palm Beach State College as a police instructor. Fire Officer Nouman K. Wrongfully ConvictedMy son name is Darmen Taylor He is now 20 years old he was charged when he was 16. Then he was bonded over at 17 the judge stated he could not be rehabilitated in the juvenile system. Because he had counseling when he was ten. During the same time one of the alleged victims wrote a letter to the judge starting that her mom put her up to this. She was took to the detective by her aunt and wrote another statement. The judge asked her did she right it she stated no and they bonded him over. Then we are getting ready for trial. These charges came about when my friend for 15 years was sleeping with my son. In turn she called the police and said he raped her two daughters. Now in the mean time I found out that 3 other adults we're sleeping with my son before all these charges came up. I called rape crisis they told me that I would have to call the police or they would. I did. But nothing was done. The prosecutor on the case stated that my son manipulated the mother to get to her children. He has been around this family since he was 3 or 4 years old. Then the lawyer leaves me out of the court room because I have to testify and the aunt of the alleged victims. But he put no one on the stand. Then they found my son guilty of 2 of the three charges of rape. He did not have a far trial. Then the lawyer says the judge is going to send my son to jail for 45 years to life and say he need to take a plea or I will never see my son again. He told my son that he would not do anything but 10 years and will be out in 5 and it wasn't a mandatory sentence. But it was all a lie he was sentence to 20 years mandatory. Its so much to this story please help my son please!29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dawatha Davis

President Obama, you have my support to stop illegal gun salesI'm conservative, a gun owner, and I voted against President Obama twice. But as a responsible American, I have come to accept the reality that gun violence has reached a point of crisis in our country, and that we all need to set aside political differences to unite on this important issue. Since the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon two weeks ago, there have been seven more school shootings—a total of 152 school shootings since the Sandy Hook massacre. Each year, countless numbers of guns are sold by unlicensed, high-volume sellers through internet websites and at gun shows. Nearly a quarter of a million gun sales originate from one single website. Unlicensed sellers at gun shows often openly advertise guns for sale with prominent signage saying, “No Paperwork Necessary.” All entities “engaged in the business of selling firearms” should be held to the same standard of requiring background checks. President Obama should close this loophole through executive action by clearly defining in the law the difference between an “occasional seller” and one that is “engaged in the business of selling firearms.” But given the power of the well-funded gun lobby, it's only going to happen if we set aside political differences and unite on this ever so important issue for the safety and security of our nation. Please join me in encouraging President Obama to utilize his executive authority to move on this issue quickly and decisively. We need action NOW!40,344 of 45,000 SignaturesCreated by Mark Carman

URGE DOJ to Enforce NOTA Against Human Egg TraffickingOvaries are human organs, and their removal carries the same risks as other surgical procedures involving anesthesia, in addition to risky hormone injections. Yet college students are being invited to violate the NOTA law by advertisements promising as much as $50,000 for their eggs. The sale of human eggs may be part of an alleged $80 million industry (Lindsay Kamakahi v American Society for Reproductive Medicine), but as demonstrated by businesses such as Napster, prolific business activity can be halted overnight if determined to be illegal.63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by MonaLisa Wallace, Esq.
