• Demand justice for Alton Sterling
Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old Black man and father, was killed last night while selling CDs outside Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was shot several times by white police officers while pinned to the ground. The U.S. Department of Justice just announced that they'll be leading an independent civil rights investigation into this horrible murder. But that isn't enough. The Baton Rouge Police Department has a shameful history of racial profiling. In 2014, the arrest rate for Black residents was more than twice that of white residents. And the department also has a history of failing to hold cops accountable for using force—out of 35 use-of-force complaints investigated in recent years, not one resulted in charges getting filed against the police officer. This is unacceptable. The Baton Rouge Police Department must take action to address the ongoing violence against Black residents at the hands of police. The two officers involved in Alton's death should be fired and charged for their role in this murder, and Police Chief Carl Dabadie Jr. must step down for failing to address a culture of racism within the Baton Rouge Police Department.

  • Justice For Tucker!
Tucker Lee Wells is my twin brother. His murder, the cover-up, and the level of corruption involved has made it next to impossible to ignore and try to mourn and move past this tragedy. And I need help building a voice to get anyone to listen and help get justice for this young man.

  • Stop Wasting Taxpayer Money on Green Harvest (marijuana interdiction)
For the last week, the peace of Maui has been disturbed by loud helicopters looking for marijuana plantings. Meanwhile we have open assault and murder cases that are ignored. Stop wasting taxpayer money on this!

  • Victims of sexual assault unite!
I was sexually assaulted by three different people when I was young and I am now 46 years of age. I have been reading about other victims stories in the Daily News but Sen. Flanagan, the new Assembly Speaker, and Gov. Cuomo have failed to enact the anti-predator Child Safety Law, which lets victims prosecute their assaulters up to age 50. Orthodox Jews and the Catholic Church are against the legislation, which would favor the survivors/victims in adding further insult to injury.

  • Save Jeff Wood from Texas Execution Under Law of Parties
Jeff Wood is scheduled for execution on August 24, 2016. We need to persuade the Texas governor and members of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to commute the death sentence to a term in prison. I have known Jeff's family for several years. His sister Terri Been is leading the effort to #savejeffwood. She has testified to the Texas Legislature to ban executions under the Law of Parties and spoken out many times to save her brother from an unjust execution.

  • Pardon Me: Artist James Andrew Hearn
I hope this petition convinces the Governor of the significant support for my pardon and highlights my civic contributions. My art should represent Tennessee nationally and internationally. At present I cannot accept shows outside the US. I have also lost prestigious personal and professional national opportunities due to the felonies’ stigma. https://www.facebook.com/Please-Pardon-Artist-James-Andrew-Hearn-661515917345058/

  • Justice for Kenneth D. Thomas
Kenneth D. Thomas is serving a life sentence for a crime the Courts are clearly aware that he did not commit. The only witness to the crime has appeared before the Court informing them that he falsely accused Mr. Thomas in efforts to shorten his own prison sentence.

  • Say NO to the Juvenile Justice Center in North Tulsa
In October, a group of concerned citizens told Karen Keith that we do not want the Juvenile Justice Center in North Tulsa. They found a group of pastors to sign on to the plan to build anyway - against the wishes of the community. Tell the commissioners once and for all, we do not want this type of "economic development" in North Tulsa!

  • Rape=Hate
I am starting this petition because I am tired of rapists being given short, uneven and unproductive sentences for a crime that forever impacts the lives of their victims. The judicial system has never treated women's lives with the same importance as men's, and the classification of Hate Crime would give women the statistical (FBI) and criminal status along with other protected classes.

  • Justice for the Stanford Rape Victim
As a former rape crisis advocate I am horrified at the slap on the wrist, a six-month jail sentence, that the Stanford rapist was issued. Twenty-year-old Brock Allen Turner was convicted by a jury of his peers of raping an unconscious, intoxicated 23-year-old woman behind a dumpster on Stanford's campus after a Kappa Alpha fraternity party. Turner stopped his assault when two male graduate students intervened. The fact that he is a white Stanford athlete should not grant him permission to get away with violence against women. Judge Aaron Persky only sentenced Turner to six months of jail time because of the "damage" that jail could do to him. He IS NOT the victim here. Tuner was charged with three felony counts, assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, sexual penetration of an intoxicated person and sexual penetration of an unconscious person. These assaults have and will continue to cause his victim untold phyiscal and emotional damage. The victim addressed Turner at his sentencing: "Your life is not over; you have decades of years ahead to rewrite your story. The world is huge, it is so much bigger than Palo Alto and Stanford, and you will make a space for yourself in it where you can be useful and happy. But right now, you do not get to shrug your shoulders and be confused anymore. You do not get to pretend that there were no red flags. You have been convicted of violating me, intentionally, forcibly, sexually, with malicious intent, and all you can admit to is consuming alcohol. Do not talk about the sad way your life was upturned because alcohol made you do bad things. Figure out how to take responsibility for your own conduct." We call on the Palo Alto Courthouse to revisit Turner's sentencing to make his punishment fit the crime.
