• Fluoride Free St Croix Falls
(please sign if you are 18 yrs or older and a St Croix Falls resident) Water fluoridation is the practice of adding industrial-grade fluoride chemicals to water for the purpose of preventing tooth decay. As is becoming increasingly clear, fluoridating water supplies is an outdated, unnecessary, and dangerous relic from a 1950s public health culture that viewed mass distribution of chemicals much differently than scientists do today. Fluoride is a drug. By fluoridating our water, our city government is not allowing the citizens of St Croix Falls to have a choice in their own health decisions. Research has shown that fluoride is inconsequential in preventing tooth decay. Fluoride is a highly toxic substance that can cause a range of adverse health effects. Certain members of the public are at particularly high risk of harm. A growing body of evidence reasonably indicates that fluoridated water, in addition to other sources of daily fluoride exposure, can cause or contribute to a range of serious effects, including dental fluorosis, arthritis, damage to the brain, reduced thyroid function, severe bone disease and possibly osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in adolescent males. Fluoridation is UNETHICAL because: 1) It violates the individual’s right to informed consent to medication. 2) The municipality cannot control the dose of the patient. 3) The municipality cannot track each individual’s response. 4) It ignores the fact that some people are more vulnerable to fluoride’s toxic effects than others. Some people will suffer while others may benefit. 5) It violates the Nuremberg code for human experimentation. Please join our efforts in keeping St Croix Falls healthy and fluoride free!

  • More local foods now!
Even though Maine is a rural state with a rich agricultural tradition, we actually import more of our food than any other state in the continental United States. Not only is food from local, sustainable farms better tasting and healthier for us, it protects our environment while supporting Maine's local farmers.

  • Stop the Use of "Molly" on the radio
Molly is a relatively new street drug which has become extremely popular amongst teenagers. The appeal of Molly comes greatly from the false idea that this drug is safe, and the promotion of Molly by music artists. As of now, the word "molly" is not censored on the radio. Although "molly" could be a name of a person, the usage of this word is promoting this highly dangerous and now popular drug. Since media influence is extremely powerful, sign this petition and take the first step to reduce Molly use.

  • Reform the Federal Wildlife-Killing Program
The problem with Wildlife Services is simple: The federal program relies too heavily on killing to resolve conflicts with wildlife. All too often, these methods are brutal, expensive and ineffective, with 100,000 animals killed each year. Tens of thousands of animals have been killed by mistake over the past decade -- including family pets and federally protected wildlife. The solution for Wildlife Services is simple as well: Stop the kill-first mentality when it comes to wildlife -- and focus on using proven non-lethal deterrents to effectively resolve conflicts. Please speak out now and urge Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to reform Wildlife Services from the federal government's top wildlife killers to a program that can truly resolve wildlife conflicts.

  • Fewer than 100 Wild Red Wolves Remain in the World
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission recently approved a temporary state rule that allows spotlight hunting of coyotes at night throughout the state, including in the area inhabited by the only wild population of red wolves, one of the world’s most endangered animals. Red wolves and coyotes look a lot alike, even in daylight. In nighttime conditions, it is nearly impossible to tell them apart. At least two wolves have already been illegally shot. Tell the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission: Don’t let anymore wolves die! Stop all coyote hunting -- daytime or nighttime -- within the red wolf recovery area!

  • Move the Super Bowl from Sunday to Saturday
The Super Bowl is the most watched American event every year, and millions of Americans get together to celebrate. Unfortunately, the game is on Sunday night, and most Americans have school and work the next day, making it difficult to fully enjoy the plethora of festivities that is associated with the Super Bowl. If the game were moved to Saturday night, then more people would be able to not only enjoy the game more, but also be more productive on Monday.
