The best thing that can happen to the US on January 1, 2013 is to let the Bush tax cuts expire and, at the same time, let the agreed upon massive budget cuts take affect. The net result of letting these two events occur will be to literally drive the country "off the cliff", fiscally that is. What this will do is free up the Congress to draft a new tax code that will "cut" taxes for everyone EXCEPT the super rich retroactive to January 1, 2013. Because it is a "tax cut" Republicans will be forced to vote aye and thereby honoring their pledge to Norquist.

I have lived in Colorado for 17 years, 14 in the Denver Metro area. While I have not been personally affected by yesterday's shootings, I am struck this morning by the way violence and hatred are woven deeply into our cultural fabric. This is not a petition to ban fireams, only the demand for sensible regulation. No more sales of automatic weapons such as the AK 47 which allows mass killing. Guns...easily purchased, any size, any shape, as long as there is killing ability! Stop this senseless need to murder. People who 'need' to own a gun are inherently carrying a very frightening message that is actually embedded in their psyche! They think that 'hunting' covers this but even killing an animal or bird is just another message that they are hard-wired for the next level down.
