Thousands of vulnerable individuals are at risk to lose Telehealth for psychotherapy as of February 28, 2023, as noted in detailed letter above. It should not be a choice between risking grave illness versus psychotherapy, whether patients or therapists. It should not be a choice between being poor and having access to psychotherapy through Telehealth.

As a lobbying group working at the local, state, and federal levels on issues affecting aging Americans, retired Americans need AARP’s political influence to assist in repealing the GPO and WEP.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, right-wing Republican laws have taken effect in state after state to ban abortion and criminalize those who seek and provide it. These harsh laws take away a fundamental right that had been guaranteed by the Constitution for nearly 50 years and fulfill an extremist vision of exerting control over our health, our bodies, and our autonomy. As a result, pregnant people—many of whom already faced challenges accessing the abortion care that should have been their right—are forced to travel long distances to seek care, or to carry to term pregnancies that could be harmful or fatal. And we see these same Republicans seeking to jail and punish people in cruel and outrageous ways. The Republican Party is now bringing these attacks to Congress, where their majority in the House of Representatives wasted no time in passing two anti-abortion bills. We know they won't stop there: They'll go after the right to contraception, limit access to self-managed abortion, and seek a full national abortion ban. We need to stop them at all costs. Democrats in the Senate and President Biden need to take every measure to defeat these bills. More than that, they need to continue the fight to codify the protections of Roe into law—and do away with the regressive filibuster, if necessary, to pass such a bill in the Senate. And as the House continues to vote on these bills, we need every member of Congress to hear from their constituents, to know that a vast, bipartisan majority of Americans support abortion rights, and that they will be held accountable for voting for any measure that seeks to limit those rights, including a national abortion ban.

The net effect of such practices is to make medical staff fear for their jobs and careers and intimidate them into silence, so as to hide the tremendous suffering, health damage, and heartbreak that abortion bans are inflicting on people. The CNN report describes the many ways hospitals and university medical centers use to silence doctors and medical staff and downplay the suffering caused by abortion bans. Some hospitals block or hinder media requests to interview their doctors and researchers on the topic. Others police social media posts about abortion—a university medical center’s lawyer insisted a group of residents in obstetrics and gynecology take down their Instagram post that said, “Abortion is healthcare,” even though many medical professional groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have used the exact same phrase. Even when hospitals have allowed their doctors to speak publicly, these employers insist that the physicians do not disclose where they work and make clear they would prefer that the doctors not speak at all. Will you support doctors speaking up for reproductive health and justice by signing the petition now?

This is very important and we all need it.

Physicians perpetrating violence against women, co-workers, and intimate partners need to be held accountable by the institutions created to do so. The current dress code perpetuates sexism, mental illness and an environment that does not support the learning of all students. The dress code sexualizes and objectifies the female student body and is demeaning to the male student body. Without change, this will continue to negatively impact our current and future student body.

By creating an official prison nursery program that would allow mothers to raise their newborns from behind bars-- a practice that has been proven to reduce the likelihood of continued arrests and help decrease the number of children sent to foster care systems. This bill would apply to incarcerated women for non-violent crimes that are soon to finish their time served or are in for a short time. As Floridians, I believe it is our responsibility to act not only in the best interest of these children but in the best interest of their Mothers. Studies show that mothers who are allowed to be in contact with their babies during the first integral few months of being born produce lower rates of recidivism among participating mothers. It has been proven that prolonged disruption of parental care alters how the young brain develops. Tangible challenges such as inadequate materials, lack of access to sanitation products and inadequate facilities, coupled with psychological challenges such as the lack of menarche education, fear and cultural stigmatization put secondary school girls and menstruating youth in Nigeria at a disproportionate risk for adverse educational impacts and other negative outcomes.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade requires bold action. It is important for the Surgeon General to issue a letter to every American household giving them complete and accurate information about medication abortion, to increase knowledge and availability of this safe and effective process.
