• Governor Bill Haslam, Tennessee Legislature: Introduce a Minimum Wage!
Tennessee is one of only five states with no minimum wage. (Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, and thank God for Mississippi.) It's one of seven with a minimum wage lower than the federal standard. (Georgia, Wyoming and the states listed above) Our state needs to enact a minimum wage of at least $9.24/hour. The average living wage of a single adult living alone in Tennessee, is $8.84/hour. In Shelby County, the living wage is $9.76/hour. In Davidson County, the living wage is $9.51/hour. As you can see, in the state's two biggest counties, even the suggested minimum wage won't be enough to sustain a single adult there. However, we must remain reasonable, as our conservative legislature probably won't agree to a minimum wage of $10/hour. We need to tell our legislators to do their job and protect workers by giving them the right to bring home the amount of money needed to feed themselves.

  • ban sales of plastic water bottles in the Yosemite National Park
I recently spent a week at Yosemite National Park as a school chaperone for my daughter's Sixth Grade class. The point of visiting that place of beauty was to instill in the children respect for the natural world. How sad it was to see plastic botttles littering the hiking trail , and streams. John Muir would be very unhappy to see the desecration of his special wilderness. Let's make the Yosemite a plastic free place!

  • Clean up runoff
My children are grown, but they are having their own babies now. This is a vital, and unavoidable priority we owe our children, grandchildren, and generations to follow. I am not an elected legislator or governor, but if I were, I would assume the responsibility of expediting this very issue. Because I am only a constituent, and not one of the elected, I can take this step of encouragement to do the right thing.

  • Save Wisconsin DNR Education, Communication and Science
Don't like the message? Don't kill the messenger! Let the governor and legislature know about the vital services that are at stake. These are the people who: -Create classroom materials about our natural world -Train teachers and scout leaders to deliver those messages with robust lesson plans and engaging activities. -Teach people of all ages how to hunt and fish and care for habitat -Tell us about the wonders of our first-class state park system and add value to your visits there. -Inform us about natural resources issues through press releases and web content. -Interpret the findings of 30 DNR scientists and others, and share them through video stories and training on YouTube, Public Service Announcements on radio, TV, theaters, web and billboards, social media like Facebook, Twitter and live Chats, and the Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine. See that issue on your coffee table? It just might be your last, even though you’ve already paid for your subscription. We really appreciate your support. In addition to signing this petition, contact members of the Joint Finance Committee now and ask that they restore all 57 positions and remind them that they are all either federally funded or funded by user fees like fishing and hunting licenses. These position cuts will have no effect on the state budget.

  • Water
While not nearly as expensive as oil, water runs a close second among necessary commodities. Millions of gallons of water are allowed to run freely into the Gulf of Mexico after torrential rainstorms that keep the Gulf States nearly perpetually green, but no significant efforts are in place to divert any of this daily waterfall.

  • Help Upstate New York Dairy Farmers Before They Lose The Farm
Nine more Upstate New York Dairy Farms have lost their contract due to low demand for milk in and around the surrounding states. This is not only a local problem, but a statewide issue. With all the 'farm to table' fame sweeping the restaurant and food industries, saving our family farms should be top priority. These century-old family-run farms will have to sell off cattle and close their operation if a new market is not found quickly. The farmers already live month-to-month just waiting to find out what price they will get for their hard-labored milk production. We ask our representative to get involved and help out the local farm reps find a solution so we don't lose this vital link to our local dairy production.

  • Please STOP allowing no permit to carry concealed weapons.
I'm a single Mom. I live in a "city" in New Hampshire. We are not in a metro here. The New Hampshire Senate passed Senate Bill 116, which would repeal the licensing requirement for carrying a concealed pistol or revolver. In other words, you could carry a concealed weapon without a permit. Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry, said, "This bill recognizes that the simple act of putting on a coat should not require a permit from the state." Really?! How is that to same? Please sign this to send a message that we want gun safety in New Hampshire--not the opposite! Gov. Hassan must follow through on her commitment to veto this dangerous bill.
