Tell Sen. James Inhofe: Listen to the Pentagon on Climate ChangeThe Pentagon says climate change is an immediate national security threat, yet key political leaders refuse to accept this reality – including Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK). It's bad enough that Sen. Inhofe calls global warming "a hoax" even though scientific consensus exists. But for the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services Committee to blatantly disregard such dire warnings from military leaders shows how deep Sen. Inhofe's denial runs. Americans hate this type of ideological fervor. If enough of us speak out, Sen. Inhofe will see how out of step he is with the mainstream when it comes to climate change. Tell eBay: Dump ALECDespite branding itself as a "green" leader, eBay remains part of a climate denial group that argues global warming is "possibly beneficial." It doesn't make sense, especially after Google, Facebook, and Yahoo! just dumped the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for "literally lying" about climate change. Let eBay's CEO know "green" leaders don't fund and associate with climate change denial. Off label use of CytotecThe Tatia M. Oden French Memorial Foundation is petitioning the FDA because of adverse events associated with the use of the drug Cytotec, (Misoprostol) for cervical ripening and labor induction. When used to induce labor, Cytotec has been known to cause uterine rupture, AFE and death of the mother and or death of the child. Tatia Malika Oden French and her daughter, Zorah, are only two of the people who would be alive today had the FDA made the Searle (original manufacturer) announcement available to consumers via its website. They both died because of the amniotic fluid embolism that Tatia experienced, shortly after being administered her second dose of Cytotec on December 27, 2001. That is a fact. If Tatia’s health care provider, an obstetrician, had informed her of the manufacturers warning letter that the doctor’s office received from G.D. Searle, she would never have taken the drug. But her obstetrician chose not to share this information with her. The August 23, 2000, warning letter from the original manufacturer took an even stronger step and issued a statement sent to 200,000 OBGYN’s throughout the U.S. We quote from this statement: “Serious adverse events reported following off-label use of Cytotec in pregnant women include maternal or fetal death, uterine hyper-stimulation, rupture or perforation requiring uterine surgical repair, hysterectomy or salpingo-oophorectomy, amniotic fluid embolism, severe vaginal bleeding, retained placenta, shock, fetal bradycardia and pelvic pain.” We therefore specifically request the FDA to create a medicine guide, that states these adverse affects of Misoprostol when used off label for labor induction. If the manufacturer itself warns of death as a possibility for both mother and child, the FDA should make this known. The FDA, has a duty to publish, at the very least, all of the possible adverse events that have been reported, including those published by the original manufacturer when it is bought by a larger company. By doing this hundreds of mothers and babies lives would be saved.4,113 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Maddy Oden

It is time for police reform nationwide! Two Black fathers have been shot dead for nothing. Keith Lamont Scott of Charlotte, North Carolina, had been waiting in his car for his son to arrive home from school, and Terence Crutcher, of Tulsa, Oklahoma had been waiting at the side of the road after his truck stalled. Both men are now dead, wrongfully gunned down by police. Both are Black men. Families should never have to fear that our loved ones could come to harm at the hands of those charged with protecting them. Keith Lamont Scott and Terence Crutcher join a long and unending line of African American and Latino youth and community members killed by police, including: -- Philando Castile of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, who was shot and killed by police during a minor traffic stop because of a broken taillight. -- Alton Sterling, who was selling CDs when police tackled him to the ground and shot several times at close range. -- Eric Garner, husband and father, who was choked to death in New York. -- John Crawford, who was shot to death when he picked up a toy gun that was for sale in an Ohio Walmart. -- Seventeen-year-old unarmed Jesús Huerta was shot to death while handcuffed in the back of a police car. -- Eighteen-year-old unarmed Ramarley Graham who was shot to death in Bronx, NY -- Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman who was found hanged in a jail cell in Waller County, Texas. The horror of losing family members to senseless, racially motivated police violence is a daily threat in the lives of Black and brown people in America. Studies show that, even though White Americans outnumber Black Americans fivefold, Black people are three times more likely than White people to be killed when they encounter the police in the US, [1] and Black teenagers are far likelier to be killed by police than White teenagers. [2] Law enforcement currently kills Black Americans at nearly the same rate as Jim-Crow-era lynchings. [3] Mothers, fathers, and other family members demand change that protects our young people from reckless policing. Families across America urge the federal government to take definitive and immediate action, including but not limited to the following reforms: • A fully-resourced and rigorous civil rights and criminal investigation by the DOJ into discriminatory policing, excessive force, and death or injury by police in every state in the country; • A comprehensive, streamlined, public national-level database of police shootings; excessive force, misconduct complaints, traffic and pedestrian stops, and arrests, broken down by race and other demographic data, with key privacy protections, the exclusion of personally identifying factors and information, and deportation immunity for civilians; • Mandating of Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) in every state and inter-state coordination between all POSTs; • An executive order that creates a strong and enforceable prohibition on police brutality and discriminatory policing based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, immigration status, disability, and housing status; • Increased funding for the DOJ's Office for Civil Rights to ensure additional, accessible state-level responders for police and other civil rights violations Divestment of federal anti-drug grants and federal funding for police departments that demonstrate abuse of power and massive reinvestment in community controlled and based policing practices; • Support for the passage of the End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA); • Streamlined national use of force matrix and mandating that state and local police have clear and streamlined matrices; and • Strict limits on asset seizure without due process and the transfer of any military equipment to local law enforcement under the 1033 program, guidelines that ensure that the equipment is not used on non-violent protesters, and an end to the requirement that such military weaponry is used within a year. The New Community Workforce in Newark is Failing Students! We are a collective of nursing students attending New Community Workforce in Newark. We've attended this program for over two years and done well in all of our classes until now. But now that we're ready to graduate, a majority of us were given failing grades on our final exams. We were told that 100% of our class failed the obstetrics and psychiatry exams. We were also told that 60% of us failed our pediatrics exam - which is shocking because this was a take home exam. But what's worse, we've been denied access to our individual test results so we don't know which answers we got wrong or right. Our objective is to review our final exams before we take them again on October 20th. But this impossible because New Community refuses to give them back to us. We have all studied hard for these final exams - so how is it that the majority of us failed? We believe something is wrong! Please sign our petition and demand that CEO Richard Rohrman provide each of us with our original exams. We also want New Community to create a transparent process for current and future students so we are better prepared to achieve success in our chosen fields!172 of 200 SignaturesCreated by NC Nursing Students United

Cost of Living Tax Equality and ReformI live in Washington D.C., one of the highest cost of living places in the country, which makes it difficult for me and others like myself, to manage or even make it, without struggling on our income. This is due to being taxed the same as others making the exact same salary, but living in lower cost areas of the country. While salaries are typically higher in areas where the cost of living is higher, these salaries are not growing at a proportionate rate to that of the overall cost of living. This makes it difficult for people to afford to remain in these areas, be able to save for the future, and have an overall decent quality of life. Why? Because our tax system does not factor the cost of living and offers no breaks for people in high cost areas. Help me tell Congress, my salary is not equivalent to someone who makes the same as me, in a low cost living area. Our American tax system needs to account for the cost of living, which in turn, will help every social class, businesses, and our overall economy.60 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jason G. Powell

MOTHERS JUSTICE MOVEMENT: Equal Justice in the CourtsEVERY YEAR 58,000 CHILDREN ARE SENT FOR CUSTODY OR UNPROTECTED VISITATION WITH A DANGEROUS ABUSER. EVERY COUNTY IN EVERY STATE HARBORS DANGEROUS JUDGES. NO CHILD IS SAFE. http://www.leadershipcouncil.org/1/med/PR3.html In addition, in 2013 the Center for Disease Control concluded a lengthy investigation into adverse childhood experiences. The ACE study is one of the largest medical investigations ever conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being. They found that a child’s exposure to certain trauma’s, including domestic violence or child sexual abuse, resulted in more illnesses and injuries to children in childhood through adulthood (i.e., social emotional and cognitive impairment; adoption of health-risk behaviors; disease, disability and social problems; and premature death). This study demonstrates how a child’s exposure to domestic or sexual abuse is a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. Yet every year, an estimated 58,000 children are sent for custody or unprotected visitation with a reported abuser. So how is this happening? Although research confirms that deliberately false allegations by mothers in child sexual abuse cases occurs less than 2% of the time, 85% of these cases results in custody to the alleged abuser—which means our courts are sending children to live with their rapist. Inadequately trained professionals tend to believe the myth that mothers frequently make false allegations. Therefore, in thinking they have the needed expertise, they don't listen to domestic violence or child abuse evidence, experts, or consider current research. Mothers are then forced into poverty trying to protect their children-- while, their children continue to be abused. Mr. President, we now have the medical research to declare domestic violence and child abuse a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. The Justice Department reports that only 10% of children are protected from further abuse once they report. The U.S. Department of Justice's Saunders report states that the STANDARD and REQUIRED domestic violence training received by judges, lawyers, and evaluators does not adequately prepare them to handle abuse cases. WE ARE PETITIONING FOR AN INVESTIGATION OF FAMILY COURT PRACTICES IN AN EFFORT TO STOP STATE JUDGES FROM FORCING DEFENSELESS CHILDREN TO BE HARMED BY ABUSERS. WE WANT AN AUDIT OF THE FUNDING TO THE COURTS, AND ADDRESS THIS FUNDING THAT IS GENDER BASED AND FUELING THE WAR ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN. WE WANT A MOTHERHOOD.GOV THAT WILL PROTECT OUR RIGHTS TO PARENT AND PROTECT OUR CHILDREN. We thank you in advance for your support.68 of 100 SignaturesCreated by melissa barnett

STOP OVER SENTENCING DRUG CASESI have noticed that people that are being found guilty of drug charges are being sentenced to extremely heavy prison terms, especially with the federal government cases. It seems as if persons with drug charges are being more heavily punished then persons found guilty of murder, raped and other violent crimes. It appears that the government is more focused on drug dealers than missing people, domestic violent, homeless individuals, the economy, rising minimum wage, cold case files, and many more serious problems happening in our country. Stand up and put a stop to over punishing what is not as important over things that are much more important.38 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Standing 4 Justice
