Why? Because first-time offenders should not be held to the same stringent parole eligibility requirements as repeat and habitual offenders. Also, a lack of maturity and under developed sense of responsibility are found in youth more often than in adults and are more understandable among the young. These qualities often result in impetuous and ill-considered actions and decisions. Essentially, both categories of offenders (the first-timers and youthful) deserve less punishment.

Fernbank Forest helped: -educate people about nature -develop environmental responsibility in people -foster fellowship in people as they took their nature walks -peak curiousity and instill lifelong learning Ms. Emily Stewart Harrison's family owned most of the land where the forest sits. Ms. Harrison campaigned to preserve the forest in order for it to serve as an environmental teaching tool for people, especially children. It pleased her to see several children enter the forest and enjoy its many wonders just as she had throughout her lifetime (1). Lets bring the standard of living up for Missourians. Many citizens in other states have started petitions to raise their minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. But we can do better! Our state's current minimum wage is $8.00. That's not enough for an individual or family to live on. We deserve an economy that supports everyone's right to a decent quality of life. As nearly no funding exists for sustainability and environmental efforts on our campuses and students pay nearly 30% of their tuition dollars directly to pay the utility bill of UH Mānoa, the Student Sustainability Fund (SSF) makes students the leaders in funding sustainability to find solutions to issues like these. The SSF will directly benefit students, clubs, departments and our campus as a whole. The Student Sustainability Fund will be $4 a semester for each student and give UH a way to empower and engage students in active involvement in this arena. As the athletic fee is $50 a semester, a $4 fee for the SSF is a small step towards a brighter future for all those at UH Mānoa. Sustainability and greening efforts on hundreds of campuses typically result in a 1-3 year payback with a high return on investment. To manage projects like recycling, renewable energy, student gardens and more, financial support is necessary and the SSF will provide an initial push for the administration to then come on board with their own investments.
