Why Now: I believe in giving someone their flowers while they are here to see them because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Tony’s work and passion deserve to be recognized in a way that ensures his legacy is permanently etched into the fabric of our community. Despite previous efforts to bring this proposal to the Legends of Hutto Homeowners Association Board of Directors, I have not received a response. But as members of this community, we have the power to make this happen. We can ensure that Tony’s contributions are honored in a lasting and meaningful way by renaming the park located off Inman Drive to "Tony Wertz Community Park." It’s important for the well being and safety of our children. Especially all that is going on in the world it would be deficient not to do so. 

SpaceX's illegal discharges of pollutants and failed flight tests have caused significant environmental damage, including damaging vital wildlife habitats and contributing to elevated mercury levels in local waterways. Despite repeated warnings from the EPA and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, SpaceX continues to evade accountability and bypass proper permitting processes.  Last year, a failed SpaceX test flight’s explosion ignited a 3.5 acre fire through neighboring state park land, damaging nesting and migration sites for local endangered species. After this failure, Musk pushed for another test flight on a rushed timeline, evading the permitting process that would require SpaceX to meet pollutant discharge limits and outline a wastewater treatment plan. It’s clear Elon Musk and SpaceX view environmental protection standards as an obstacle rather than a necessary safeguard, and would rather prioritize profits over legal responsibility.  Sign the petition to demand that the EPA and the FAA hold Elon Musk and SpaceX accountable for their pollution and to review SpaceX's permitting processes. Corporate polluters like SpaceX are not allowed to disregard the health of local communities and wildlife in favor of profit!

Think about it: Walmart is the biggest grocery chain in the country, and it paid its CEO $25 million in 2023. That’s 933 times the median associate’s wages, which are also below the poverty line for a family of four.  Simultaneously, there was a $163 million increase in profits from 2022 to 2023, for a total of over $13.6 billion. So if companies are continuing to not just profit, but break RECORDS, why are prices going up?  While families face climbing food prices, corporations rake in more profits. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? The Biden-Harris administration has already started the critical and necessary work to fight back against corporate greed, and tax wealthy CEOs and corporations what they owe just like the rest of us. But it's clear this work needs to continue for working class and middle-class people to afford their groceries.  This also means continuing to build and support a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with authority to pass rules and regulations that will benefit all of us, including regulating mergers and corporate monopolies that will drive up costs and making it harder for small businesses to stay afloat!  Sign the petition to support a Harris-Walz administration in fighting back against the price gouging that drives up the costs of goods and lines greedy CEOs pockets!

When it comes to election participation, the U.S. lags behind—ranking 26th out of 32 peer nations. We pride ourselves on our democracy, but our government must do its part to encourage civic engagement by making it easier and more accessible for the vast majority of Americans to vote. Making Election Day a national holiday already has momentum. 65% of Americans already support the idea of establishing a national holiday on Election Day, and lawmakers have introduced various pieces of legislation on the topic for years. Still, designating Election Day as a national holiday won't make voting easier for millions of working class Americans who may be left out of the holiday, or seniors and folks with disabilities who depend on public transit to get to the polls. That’s why we need to focus on making our voting system more accessible for ALL Americans. Americans in every state deserve the time and flexibility to vote, whether through expanded early voting, vote-by-mail, or making Election Day a national holiday.  Student Comfort and Well-being: The ability to choose what to wear can significantly impact students' comfort and well-being. If students are uncomfortable, it can affect their focus and performance in school.

As a community we need to stand together on this in order to be heard. Please take the time to help out and have a voice. Our community is important to us all. We really need to take a good look at this project and the many things that really don’t make sense. One of the main ones being this should not be around our residential areas. 

As Vice President, Kamala Harris has been an integral part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to conservation. In 2023, the Administration enacted the most significant protection of the Boundary Waters in 40 years!  As current Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz recognizes that the Boundary Waters is a very special place and the crown jewel of the upper Midwest, and he can back that up with many of his very own trips to Canoe Country. Under Governor Walz’s administration relevant agencies have followed the processes and laws, advancing state-level protections for the Wilderness. Trump claims he will win Minnesota and thinks campaigning on this issue (opening the Boundary Waters region to copper mining) will help him, but he’s wrong. Minnesotans and Boundary Waters defenders all around the country understand what is at stake for Canoe Country and America’s wild places in 2024 and we are committing to work to elect Boundary Waters Champions at every level of government. Former President Donald Trump has, and would again, reject science, the law, and overwhelming public support to open the Boundary Waters headwaters to toxic mining to benefit a giant Chilean mining company owned by the richest family in Chile.  The alarming right-wing policy blueprint for a second Trump term - called “Project 2025”- specifically lists overturning the mining ban near the Boundary Waters.  The fate of America's most visited wilderness area is in our hands. The decisions we make in this election will determine whether we protect or endanger the Boundary Waters. Jordan Chiles is an exceptional athlete and part of the gold medal-winning American women's gymnastics team. In the individual competition, she earned the bronze medal, a recognition of her remarkable display of athleticism and excellence. However, the International Olympic Committee has now revoked her medal—a move that has, in the past, been reserved largely for athletes found guilty of cheating or using performance-enhancing drugs. This is not the case for Chiles—whose only fault was the bureaucratic confusion and failures of the various judicial bodies governing her sport. After Chiles' competition, her coach appealed the score—and the judges, upon reconsideration, adjusted her score, awarding her bronze. However, because a later claim contended that Chiles' coach was four seconds late in lodging the appeal, a panel then stripped her of this medal. This is absurd and outrageous—and an insult to all the athletes who have been cast into limbo. Once the appeal was accepted, it should not have been revoked. There are questions of conflict of interest around the judge who ruled against Chiles. And, overall, this is against the spirit of the Olympics. The Romanian team—which was awarded the bronze after it was taken from Chiles—suggested three athletes should each receive a medal, a solution which has precedent. This isn't about taking an honor away from any other athlete. Whether two or three athletes are awarded bronze, or just Chiles—as the judges had ruled—Jordan Chiles earned that bronze. And the Olympic Committee must make this right.

Musk has made it abundantly clear that he is willing to go to any length to chip away faith in our election system in order to tip the scales politically and elect Trump. He repeatedly claims that foreigners are being flown in to commit voter fraud—a well-debunked lie. He called on the elimination of electronic voting for dubious reasons. He publicly avows his support of right-wing conspiracy theorists and influencers who have made clear their distrust in our political system and democracy. Enough is enough.  Our government should not award any future funding to the same conspiracist who is actively undermining its own integrity.  Let's be clear: It's not just us who recognize how problematic it is that billions of our tax dollars are being given to Elon Musk.
