Pay Cuts for CongressThe across-the-board cuts set to go into effect at the end of the week will hurt the economy, and they should be stopped. But if Congress insists on cutting anyone's salary, they should cut their own paychecks first. In fact, they have proposed a 20% across-the-board pay cut for 800,000 federal employees - all while leaving their salaries safely intact. If hard working employees will see an unexpected pay cut because Congress can’t get its own job done, shouldn’t our Congress members also see a pay cut? After all, we pay their salaries. As a state politician in Maine, I am seeing first-hand the devastating impact these cuts will have on our local communities. Why should our Congressional representatives not feel some of the pain, if they're so convinced that cuts are the answer? The least they can do is cut their own salaries first. Because of the 27th amendment, Congress can't change their salaries until 2014, but if the sequester happens, it'll cut public services for the next 10 years. So Congress needs to make sure that the next Congress, and every one after that, also feels the cut. Instead, they specifically exempted their own salaries.365,679 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Diane Russell

Take care of our ElderlyMany of Our Elderly are Existing in Poverty and our Government don't care. They want our Elderly to just die. _________________________________________________ Take care of our Elderly. They took care of you when you could not take care of yourself. Now it is your time to take care of them. They are "The Least Among Us". Increase their Social Security checks, so they can live out the rest of their life's with dignity. No one can live of $900 - $1200 per month. 60 - 70 percent of our elderly exist in poverty. The cost of a room in an assisted living facility starts at about $3500 + ++ per month. Our Elderly can't afford that and thousands of them don't have Medicaid to pay for it, so they exist in poverty and die alone. ALL of our elderly should qualify for Medicaid or Medicare should cover the cost for our Elderly.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hailey Childs

Help Save AIDS FundingIn recent years, HIV/AIDS programs both in Massachusettes and nationwide has been severly underfunded by the State and Federal Governments. Last year in Massachusettes alone, the State Legislature voted to have no increases in spending even though many programs throughout the state were suffering from the cut-backs made to their budgets. This alone made many programs face the decision of whether to cut-back on services to clients or shut their doors to them completely. This is unacceptable as their was actually an increase in the HIV infection rate in Massachusettes and nationwide. My service agency in Boston (The largest Service Agency in the State) had too cut back on transportation to doctors appointments, Court Apperances, Housing Assistance, Case Management, Needle Exchange, Educational Programs and other services to their clients. I am suffering from the devestating effects of this disease, which is complicated by a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Last year, many people had to go without the services that they have come to rely upon in previous years (ie Mobile Health Clinics, Transportation, Case Management etc.) due to the decisions of the people that we have put into office. Please join me in fighting back on these choices and say to our elected officials that this disease is still a major issue. Let your voice be heard that HIV/AIDS programs and services need to be fully funded rather than sending our dollars to other countries to bail them out of THEIR PROBLEMS.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Philip High

Make Domestic Skunks Legal In Washington StateLegalization of domestic skunks in Washington state. They are so misunderstood in fact they are wonderful pets. It is legal in Oregon state but, the skunk must be imported from a different state along with a health permit and a importation permit. It should be the same in Washington state with the same requirement.876 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Cory J. Scherzinger

Save Our Post Office - MaineOur goal is to save the U.S. Postal Service from drastic cuts in service. We want the postal service to cease closing mail processing plants. We want the postal service to continue 6 day delivery and we want the postal service to stop closing post offices and cutting retail operating hours. Our goal is to see the dramatic over-payments into retirement accounts to stop and be returned to the postal service. The goal of this petition is also to have congress address the hostile working conditions in the US Postal Service and "Union Busting" tactics.24 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Phil Cleaves

Petition to Support Bipartisan VAWA in CongressWe, the undersigned, wish to thank and encourage Representative Tom Reed to continue his bipartisan efforts to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, along with the enactment of the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act and the Campus Safety Act. We thank the Representative for his efforts to champion bipartisan support for the VAWA and encourage him to lead the efforts to pass a more inclusive VAWA in the House; a House act similar to the Senate version would provide protections to undocumented immigrants, Native Americans, and same-sex couples. These acts, if passed, will prove to be instrumental tools in the fight against domestic violence and other intimate forms of violence. The act provides victims of domestic abuse with a refuge from violence through crisis centers, hotlines, violence prevention programs, and other essential services. We also urge the Representative to act quickly and determinedly as the act is of an urgent nature. Failure to pass the legislation quickly, increases the risk of sexual violence on campus and cuts off survivors from vital resources. If the Violence Against Women Act (S. 1925) is not passed in the early days of this congressional session, 200,000 survivors could lose critical legal, and in many cases, life saving, services and protections.23 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jessie Palmer
