• Democracy is not a business: Stop the shame
In addition to most of it's language, our country should use most of Britain's political campaign financing laws. Currently, we go about elections as if we don't WANT to have a democracy. If we had a campaign and voting system that was truly democratic and some party tried to change it to what we have now, people would "riot in the streets." I am personally appalled by our current system.

  • We Need to Move On
We must get the Republicans to take compromise seriously. The people of the United States have spoken - loudly - in the recent election, that the Republican agenda is not popular. We are sending this petition to the Republican Congressional members.

  • Support a Doctrine of Fairness for Palestinians
For over 45 years now the Palestinian people have been treated like second class citizens in their own homeland. Israel's occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem must stop. We need a policy of "Fairness" that not only supports the security of Israel, but also recognizes the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to have a secure homeland. Israel's security can only be guaranteed when Palestinian security is guaranteed. Let's work for both.

  • Impeach John Boehner!!!
I think it has been proven time and again that there are certain elements within our government that have made it clear they don't want to make decisions that move government forward. Instead they just want to stomp their feet like children and pout every time they don't get their way. That being the case, John Boehner seems to be a special case in that he has become the representation of government gridlock. I don't care what side of the political landscape you stand on. We are seeing with Boehner a man that has several times said that he is willing to sabotage our government system to get his way. Impeachment would send a message that we demand action from our government, and we will not stand any longer for government gridlock that makes the average American suffer while congress continues to get paid for inaction.

  • Lobbyists subvert the democratic process
What is the purpose of pretending that we have a representative form of government when big money is allowed to continually subvert the democratic process? Personally, I once thought my vote was a partial buy in to this process, in addition to my responsibility to be a good citizen and participate in between elections by letting my representatives be aware of my opinion on key issues. But lobbies are an end-run around this entire process, producing disenfranchised citizens, apathetic voters, and on the extreme side, separatists who actively oppose the system.

  • Restrict Amendments
Currently, with a few exceptions, virtually any amendment can be attached to a piece of legislation at both the Federal and State levels(there is at least one state that has a restriction in place). The intent of this petition would be to create necessary laws to prevent this from happening.

  • THE UNEMPLOYMENT SUPPORT MUST CONTINUE
Mr President, and Representatives of the People--House & Senate, Please accept our bread and butter request to continue to support us with unemployment benefits that are due to expire December 29, 2012. Unemployment is not an entitlement; it is an insurance; a fund we paid into! The latest report is that the extensions will create 300,000 jobs! One dollar of unemployment is re-invested in the community $1.60. Some of us will end depending on other social support, the end result of which will be the government still paying. We need a profound solution and not band-aids. The meager payments end up spent on survival bills and are still helping the economy! A fellow person affected explains to me that she is going to college for special ed and she was cut off at her last semester; these cuts are affecting a lot more people than just the unemployed. Personally, if I do not land a job by the end of the year, I will be homeless. Please ask your information services how much I have contributed to our beloved nation!!! Or look me up in Who's Who or the 100 Most Prominent Women in the U.S.A.! Respectfully, Alkistis Von Gizycki

  • Deception in the military
A soldier fights in many combat zones (obtaining medals) making many sacrifices for OUR COUNTRY over the past 26+ years and then suffers from mental and medical issues. Tries to retire and receive disability. ALL DENIED for himself and his family. Paperwork lost ?, or was it a misplacement on purpose?S Rumor has it that the base Colonel thinks PTSD is for the weak minded. Maybe the combat has made the solider's mind weak? Procedures not followed? The military does what it wants, when it wants. Soldiers records are owned by them and can be altered. Help stop the deceitful ways. Give the soldiers and their families what are due them for the sacrifices they have made for all of us!
