The word gypsy is being currently used to market gitems to a vast majority of people. Who have no idea who gypsies are, and the current oppression they face in the world. The romanticized view of the romani people needs to stop, people need to know we are not a fantasy or fairy tale. We are real people, and it is wrong to use us to make money. It is also wrong to ignore the racism and hatred towards romani people, by hiding it with a fantasized view of the people.

KPOJ, Oregon's progressive talk radio, was suddenly shut down by Clear Channel without notice over the weekend. Clear Channel is owned by Bain Capital. KPOJ was the only station with a signal strong enough to hear Thom Hartman, Carl Wolfson, and shows like Ring of Fire. The station fired Portlander Carl Wolfson without notice. The radio format turned instantly to sports. Please tell Clear Channel that you will not stand for suppressing alternative viewpoints, and to reinstate the progressive format immediately.

In the 112th congress there were a number of outspoken science deniers elected to the Science, Space, and Technology committee. Paul Broun, R-GA, said "God's word is true. I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell." Todd Akin, R-MO, said, "From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." Mo Brooks, R-AL, said, "nobody knows whether we're going to have global cooling or global warming over the next half century or century." The Science, Space, and Technology committee has partial or complete jurisdiction over the following federal agencies: NASA, the Department of Energy, EPA, ATSDR, NSF, FAA, NOAA, National Institute of Standards and Technology, FEMA, the U.S. Fire Administration, and United States Geological Survey. It is essential that members of this committee are not only scientifically literate, preferably with backgrounds in science, but also that they pass a basic litmus test of believing in evolution and climate change while denying conspiracy theories convenient to their political beliefs, such as "legitimate rapes" not resulting in pregnancy.

In the recent election, the American people reconfirmed our belief in a government that serves all of the American people, not just the wealthy, white, or male members of our society. It is time that the obstructionist "right" in Congress woke up (grew up?), smelled the coffee, and went to work with our President for the American people instead of bull-headedly beating on their own outdated ideology. I do not want to see even two more years of the gridlock that kept us from moving forward in the last two. Our President deserves better than that.

The foundation of Democracy is American citizens voting for elected officials. A candidate running for the Presidency who receives one vote more than the competing candidate has in fact been elected by America. The Electoral College is in fact unamerican as it takes away from the popular vote which is the voice of America.

Donald Trump displays a lack of respect for the elected President of the United States. I do not think it is in good taste that a natiional TV network such as NBC to continue to support him as a brand. There are plenty of other celebrity brands or show platforms that can replace Mr. Trump and his show.

Many single mothers did not choose to be single mothers. We had no choice: we were fleeing domestic violence to protect ourselves and our children. Only to find out that we were bound by child custody laws that allow abusers to continue to exert control over us and our children. This issue affects American mothers domestically and internationally, both of whom are loyal Democratic voters.
