  • President Obama: Keep your promise: Close Guanatanamo Bay and hold the perpetrators of torture ac...
President Obama promised the American people to close Guantanamo Bay and to prosecute those within the CIA and the US military who committed torture in the name of the people of the United States during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This late in his first and perhaps only term of office, however, the President has failed to make any significant progress toward these promises. In fact, Attorney General Eric Holder recently announced that he was closing the books on very serious allegations of torture by the CIA that led to the death of detainees. There is no intent to pursue other cases. This means that not a single case of torture by the CIA has been prosecuted by this Administration. I voted for Obama in large part due to the promises he made to hold our country to the highest standards of rule of law. As the daughter of an American military officer who served in two wars and was awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal for his work toward peace in the Middle East and a Silver Star for gallantry in action, I know my father cared deeply about the honor of the US Military and was appalled by the conduct of those who did not uphold the Constitution and our international obligations under the Geneva Conventions and other treaties. My father died before the book was closed on investigations of torture but he would have been shocked by Holder's announcement. Please join in demanding justice for those held in secret detention, for those tortured in our names and for those held indefinitely without trial or hope of redress. Ask President Obama to keep his promises and to restore hope at home and abroad in the American ideals of rule of law and justice for all.

  • Norquist and His Treasonous Pledge
By signing the Norquist pledge to never raise taxes, those who sign jeoperodize the national security of America by starving our economy of essential resources to defend our global interests, secure domestic prosperity, and prepare for a better future. Those who sign do so in direct conflict with their oath of office to defend the Constitution, this on its face is subversive and borders on treason.

  • Corporate accountability
Since corporations are people, they (the executives) should go to jail for negligent homicide for oil disaster and mine disaster deaths etc. People do when they hit someone with a car.

  • Congress: Trade your allegience to Grover Norquist for an allegience to the American People
Many members of congress signed a pledge to follow Grover Norquist's instructions when voting on policy matters, even though Grover Norquist is not an elected official. I believe that members of Congress should pledge to work for the American people instead. Pledging away all your future votes to some private citizen's command, thereby giving up your right to think for yourself, is simply not the American way.

  • Believe in America? Then bank in America.
If a President's financial interests are not aligned with its citizens then there is a conflict of interest and that may cause harm to the nation in the future. Mitt Romney must be asked to repatriate all his foreign holdings to the US.

  • Fight the Grover Norquist No-Tax Pledge
Most Republicans in Congress have signed a pledge, promulgated by Grover Norquist, that they will not vote to raise taxes of any kind under any circumstances. Such a pledge is contrary to good governance, and has crippled efforts to enact progressive legislation and policies. Most economists strongly believe that a mix of tax increases and spending reductions will be necessary to deal with the massive Federal deficit, and to preserve supports for the disadvantaged. We are urging all West Virginia candidates for Congress to refuse to sign this destructive pledge, or to repudiate it if they have already signed it.

  • It is time to be wiser: End the US embargo against Cuba, Now!
For over 50 years the US embargo against Cuba has been an emotionally manipulated foreign policy that can not be any longer legally, politically, historically or economically justified. The atavistic perpetuation of this unintelligent foreign policy, perpetuated for over 50 years, has damaged our efficiency and perception as the World Leader

  • Consider the Child's Future
My family has taken in several foster children in the past, several of them from mothers who cannot afford to take care of their child. Before politicians decide to turn down a women's right to a choice, they should assure that there are enough social services in place so that child won't be raise in poverty.
