• Forgiveness of Repayment of $7500 Buyer Tax Credit
Many first time home buyers who purchased their homes in 2008 applied for a tax credit of $7500. This credit is to be repaid over 15 years at $500 per year with no interest. However, the following year the tax credit was raised to $8000 and there is NO repayment required for this credit. This is unfair to those who purchased their home a year before. I have been repaying my loan over the last couple of years through my taxes and during these difficult economic times, it has been tough knowing your refund will be less $500 a year for many more years to come. Those homeowners who purchased their homes in 2008 should be afforded the same benefit as the homeowners who enjoyed the $8000 first time home buyer credit and they should be forgiven the amount of the credit for the remaining years of the repayment term. In a fragile economy, many homeowners can use the extra $500 every year to offset the increasing costs of living. Those who received the $7500 credit should be forgiven from having to repay those funds just as those who claimed the $8000 credit a year later. It is not fair to punish those homeowners who purchased a year earlier by making them repay a loan that many others received (and $500 more) and do not have to repay every year.

  • Transparency and resident representation in corporation annexations and zoning changes
In the past three years our city has gone through alot of physical and boundary changes. Students were counted as residents without proper representation, land was annexed into the corporation despite overwhelming resident opposition, zoning applications seemed unevenly granted, blasting ordinances seeemed weak, public meetings were not timely or properly posted, and federal grants( RCTA) were mishandled.

  • South Dakota abortion law uses false information
South Dakota wants doctors to lie to women seeking abortion by forcing doctors to inform women that having an abortion increases their risk of suicide. As one of my family members committed suicide, I find this law to be not only demeaning to a woman's choice regarding pregnancy, but to the very real problem of suicide. The law is based on faulty, misrepresented information and is merely fear-mongering on the part of the lawmakers.

  • Repeal The Limitation on funding for education
The average college student will not graduate in four years; therefore, the limitation on Pell Grants should be repealed. Millions of underprivileged students rely on this source of funding for education.

  • Citibank, hand over the proof!
In 2007, Citibank claimed my 85-year-old mother was overdrawn on her checking account by almost $4,500. They got her to take out a 30-year HELOC loan for $10,000, with a 3-year prepayment penalty, to pay off this alleged "overdraft", although she didn't need it. I feel that this was a form of "Financial Elder Abuse". I have repeatedly asked to see documentation to prove Citibank's claim that my mother was ever overdrawn. They have refused.
