• STOP SAFEWAY'S ATTACK ON EMPLOYEES
Safeway just went to the bargaining table with some of it's unions in Northern California. The contract presented takes away full time "status", (even if they work a full eight hours, they won't receive full time employee benefits) overtime, holiday pay, and any medical care costs would be paid as a whole by the employees themselves with no aid from Safeway at all. Most of their employees, like many of us, have families to support and cannot lose pay during a strike lest their families go hungry. As a customer, and a non-Safeway employee I am outraged and calling on my fellow labor supporters to help these people before SAFEWAY becomes SLAVEWAY!

  • Eliminate ceiling on Social Security payroll taxes
Currently, once a person earns $110,100, they no longer have to pay Social Security taxes. Many of us don't come close to earning this much. However, in 2011, the CEO of KKR & Co. paid off his Social Security taxes for the year before Jan. 10, 2011, six working days into the new year. If the income cap were removed, social security would be safe--probably forever.

  • Stop Wars, Spend Those Dollars At Home
US administrations and Congress spend billions of unaccounted dollars on Pentagon and its wars, while home front is totally neglected. This trend must be reversed, and more attention given to people at home.

  • Protect Bristol Bay
Bristol Bay is one of our most pristine national treasures. Its ecosystem supports fishing and tourism job from Alaska to Washington. But a new environmental impact report suggests that a new mine in the area might put all of this at risk, threatening wildlife and jobs. Join me in asking to block the mine if further research confirms that it will harm the ecosystem, kill wildlife, and destroy jobs.

  • Campaign Finance Reform
It is about giving elections back to citizens. All corporate money should be out of politics. Campaigns should be financed through equal, small amounts added to every personal income tax and money should be distributed to candidates based on the number of citizens in their district.

  • Walk The Wash
The Washington Street enhancement project we are proposing would calm traffic, make the street walk-able and bike-able, and also have bioswales and/or permeable paving to capture runoff & debris and re-charge groundwater supplies. We think all these things would increase business for businesses at the top and bottom of the canyon, and also make Mission Hills more beautiful and accessible.

  • Save the Hanalei Farmers Market!
On June 2, the Hanalei Farmers Market was ended suddenly with no advance notice to the 56 vendors who depend on it to make a living. The leaders of Hale Halawai, the non-profit organization that runs the market, say the closure is due to "unresolved parking and permit issues." They also said they were threatened with a lawsuit by unnamed individuals in the community. The closure of this marketplace would be debilitating for the people who share their locally-made treasures there: farmers, artisans, food vendors, and experts on Hawaiian culture. Consequently, these locals would have less income to put back into the community, creating ripple effects for everyone. To preserve the Hanalei Farmers Market and its invaluable contribution to the island of Kauai, the county would need to take the following steps: 1) Expedite the amendment of the current Special Use Permit and any other permits needed to enable the market to resume operations immediately. 2) Allow market guests to park in a designated area at nearby Waioli Park. 3) Keep the market open until these matters are resolved. The Hanalei Farmers Market is a blessing to our island. It must be saved. Mahalo!

  • Tell KFC to Stop Rainforest Destruction Before It's Too Late
Greenpeace's researchers have discovered KFC's secret recipe and it's rainforest destruction. KFC throw-away packaging contains rainforest fiber from Indonesia's rainforest. That's right. KFC is destroying the habitat of the last remaining Sumatran tigers for potato wedges and 12-piece buckets of extra crispy chicken. It's disgusting

  • Award reasonably equivalent facilities to Goethe International Charter School
The Los Angeles Unified School District has offered Goethe International Charter School 10 classrooms for the 2012-13 school year. The school currently uses 15 and has requested 16. Goethe is faced with a dire dilemma: kicking out students and laying off staff or renting a facility (IF one is available) and depleting our financial reserves. We ask that all stakeholders and supporters of quality public education ask the District to reconsider its offer and to award Goethe 16 classrooms, plus reasonably equivalent non-teaching space.

  • Vetting of the President of the United States
President Obama while a Senator pushed through a vetting process of his contender in the 2008 election to prove that he was in deed a "Natural Born" citizen of these United States. Of course this was proven to be true because both of John McCains parents were natural born or Naturalized citizens of the United states at the time of his birth, and on military duty in Panama.
