The new president of the University of Missouri announced he is closing the university's press, which has been publishing scholarly and general readership books for 54 years. We need to create a constitutional amendment that guarantees a women’s right to an unrestricted first trimester abortion. We need an amendment to the constitution that prevents Roe V. Wade from ever being overturned. This amendment must prevent a group’s ideology, a person’s personal beliefs, or the government from dictating what a woman should do with her body. The 1973 Supreme Court decision of Roe V. Wade allowed women to get safe, legal abortions from well-trained doctors. But after this law was passed people against legal abortion began working on a way to prevent any funding for abortion. In recent years many against legalized abortion have cut off federal and state funding to Planned Parenthood and other clinics that allow women to terminate their pregnancies. Denying a woman the right to end her pregnancy in the first trimester should be unconstitutional. We need to create an amendment to secure the right to a first trimester abortion, it just hasn’t been written yet. This is where you come in: by signing this petition we can make this amendment a reality.
