In recent presidential elections we have seen instances where a candidate who failed to win a majority of the popular vote was elected President because he won the majority of the votes of the electoral college. Based on population, some states or some combination of states mgiht have more electoral college votes than others, and in these instances these states can influence the outcome of the election despite the will of the popular majority.

My petition is regarding the Social Security benefit for children when one or both parents has passed away. In 1981 this benefit changed for children after they completed high school! Before then, the benefit continued unitl the child turned 21 or 22. I was told when the government thought Social Security was going away, they made changes to many benefits, and this was one of them. As we see, Social Security is still here 31 years later! This benefit needs to be return for chldren wanting to go to college, who have one or no parents living to help support them through college. Financial Aid is not enough to get these children through college! They are accomulating mountains of student loans, when this benefit could help them offset some of their college expenses! Do the right thing and help these children attending college! Their parents worked years and paid into the system, and now they do not have the support they need to get a decent education! Please return this Benefit effective immediately!!!

American's with Disabilities Act provides protection for employees with disabilities prior to obtaining employment, but what about those who do not learn of their disability or are not diagnosed until years later? This could happen to anyone of you. All across America employers are forcing resignations, firing and demoting highly qualified individuals in fear that their disability will interfere with the very same job they were once hired & deemed qualified to do. Why should you take a stand? By doing so you are not only saving tax payer dollars and replenishing the constantly depleting social security funds available to Americans who are eligible for retirement; but also giving someone a chance at having their livelihood back. Imagine being in a position where you feel needed as a nurse, teacher, daycare worker or some other profession; to wake up and have that all taken away. In “Right to Work” States, like Florida, this is even more appalling that employers don’t have to give reason for their dismissal and makes the issue even more prevalent. Staying home collecting a 'check' should not be a way of life for those that are willing & able to continue their duties with accommodations. Encourage employers to make accommodations for employees with tenure.

If a man or a woman has served our nation, and become unable to work in the civilian world, their service needs to be honored by a grateful nation. A homeless vet is a terrible thing; this should not be. Many veterans are homeless due to an inability to keep up with both a mortgage and property tax. If We, the People, truly value our troops, we need to put our money where our mouths are. We, the People, owe these men and women for their service, and this is a small way to pay them back.

HR 4170 is a bill to have the US Government pay for student loan debt, or to force the companies who have loaned money to students to cancel that debt and absorb the losses. The economics of this just don't make sense! Yes, student loan debt forgiveness would help those with loans, but only in the short term! Students now in school would not be helped. The US Government owes $14 trillion, and HR 4170 wants to add another trillion! Or even to cause companies, who own those loans, to pay for it. The US Government can't afford to pay for college education.

We the undersigned want the Congress of the United States to pass legislation which would require all gun owners to purchase liability insurance for each gun they own. This insurance will guarantee that victims of gun violence be compensated for their losses. It costs taxpayes about $60,000 for every bullet fired at a crime scene. This insurance would help those who were victims of gun actions. It
