Let's name some Philadelphia Laureates. This petition asks Mayor Nutter and City Council to name Philadelphia Poets Laureate. Laureates would serve for one or two years as cultural ambassadors for the city and inspirations to its school children. Other Laureates (Painter-, Sculptor-, Composer-, Dramatist-) could be named. Laureates would be paid a modest salary-comparable to a police lieutenant, let's say-from privately raised funds.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lynn Hoffman

Major tax revision actMajor tax revision act to make major turn in US economy. Lower taxes for deserving companies and Individual Business. This should put to rest the Republican issue of why and who the 1% job creators deserve huge tax breaks. Deadline for issue is June.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael Brewer

Remove the Social Security Earnings CapThe shortfall in funding the future of social security can be relieved by removing the earnings cap (currently $110.000) after which no contribution to social security is made. By taxing all wages, salaries and self employed income fairly, including the highest wages earned, the shortfall in the Social Security Trust can be greatly reduced. It is time to stop the terrible inequity of taxing only low base earnings.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jennifer Milligan

Stop Business WelfareOften those expressing concern about US debt complain about safety net programs for the very poor 15% of Americans. • Poverty level is $22,314 for a family of four; full-time sales clerks earn about $20, 699. • Minimum annual wage is about $15,600 for 40 hours a week. • A worker can work just as hard as any CEO but still be poor. • The very poor poverty level is about $11,000; they get all of $1.44 per-meal in Food Stamps. If taxpayers stopped subsidizing low-wage businesses and required a living wage for all, there wouldn’t as much need for a safety net. Only 50% of full-time workers earn more than $44,100 annually.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Janis Ramquist

Stop PA Abortion Ultrasound BillIn a thinly-veiled attempt to block a woman's right to choose, members of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives have put forward a bill that would force doctors to perform ultrasounds on women seeking abortions. Most women seeking abortions are very early in their pregnancies, meaning that most of these ultrasounds would be performed trans-vaginally. It follows then that this bill mandates something akin to state-sponsored rape. The bill has passed through the House Health Committee but has yet to be put to a vote. Tell your representatives that you stand with women and that you oppose House Bill 1077.1,160 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Margot Goldberg

Women for Women's healthAs a woman and as a physician, I strongly believe that any congressional committee that handles issues of women's health choices should be composed of at least 50% women. We cannot have GOP Taliban tactics dominating women's health choices. How would men like women dictating male contraception or vasectomies? Medicalize All Drugs -- End the Drug WarThe USA pays for the prosecution and incarceration of millions of its citizens, selectively mostly people of color, for substances less harmful than alcohol and tobacco. Families are broken up, and many are disenfranchised for life. End this tool for enriching Big Pharma and other legal drug pushers, a War which also empowers corrupt governments (including our own).3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Roy Richard

Demand A Full-Scale Investigation of the S.E.C.The Securities and Exchange Commission has failed to provide adequate justice in it's investigation of the financial crisis. Recent reports from the New York Times, Forbes, NPR, and other news agencies indicate lenient penalties for banks and companies responsible for the financial crisis, favoring Wall Street over American citizens. It's time to demand a full-scale investigation of the S.E.C. by the U.S. Justice Department and F.B.I.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joe

Save Millersville Men's Track and Field and Cross CountryThe Track & Field and Cross Country programs at Millersville University have been a valuable and competitive part of the University for almost 60 years. On February 14th around 2:00 P.M. the coaching staff was notified that Men's Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track & Field as well as the contract of Head Coach, Scott Wieser, would all be terminated at the completion of the 2012 outdoor season. The University gave no warning, as well as no alternative financial plan for the already cost-effective teams. This is about more than one program at a D2 institution; this is about the budget cuts being made all over the country. These cuts to state universities inhibit us, as paying college students, from experiencing everything that college has to offer. Sign this petition not only if you support the re-institution of the Men's Cross Country and Track & Field programs, but also if you believe that cutting money from state universities and education is unjust and unfair.7,279 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Thomas Wexler

A Constitutional Amendment to Clean Up ElectionsThis is a petition to propose a constitutional amendment to end bribery by political donation. It takes a heap of money to run for political office these days, and with few exceptions, our elected officials have placed their public trust in the hands of those groups which can underwrite their election campaigns. Thanks to the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court, our elected representatives now represent us in name, while they represent the bundlers, the lobbyists and the moneyed interests in deed. Dare it be repeated—this is bribery.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter Hoffmann
