• Arizona! Move Your Money from Wells Fargo!
Wells Fargo bank is bad for our community! With a track record of abuses of low income and minority customers, Wells Fargo does not represent the values of most Arizonans. Yet several of our state's public institutions and government agencies invest Arizona taxpayer money in Wells Fargo accounts. Here are but a few examples of Wells Fargo's track record serving the 1% at the expense of the 99%: Wells Fargo Cashes in on Prison Profits - Wells Fargo has 50,000 shares in Corrections Corporation of America, the same for profit private prison company that sponsored Arizona Immigration Bill SB1070 and largely financed the campaigns of recalled State Senator Russell Pearce, controversial Sherrif Joe Arpaio, and Governor Jan Brewer. Wells Fargo discriminates against minorities - At the height of the sub-prime lending boom, the bank was 3-4 times more likely to loan sub-prime mortgages to financially stable Latinos and African-Americans than to Caucasians. Wells Fargo discriminates against the 99% - In 2010, Wells Fargo was fined by a U.S. District Judge for its predatory overdraft practices. And Wells Fargo is one of only two remaining U.S. banks to offer Direct Deposit Advance, a type of high interest payday loan available right from the ATM machine. Arizona deserves better! Let's call on all public and government institutions in Arizona to move OUR money out of Wells Fargo and back into our community through community banks or credit unions!

  • Restore Paterno's name to Big Ten trophy
Last year, the Big Ten Conference decided to honor Coach Joe Paterno by partially naming the conference championship trophy after him. After Coach Paterno was fired, Commissioner Jim Delany decided to remove his name from the trophy. However, Coach Paterno met his legal responsibility and has not been charged with a crime. None of us can fairly judge what he should or should not have done in a situation which we ourselves did not experience. People are upset and want justice, but our country does not run on mob rule. Unless legal authorities find Coach Paterno to be complicit in the alleged abuse, his name should be restored to the trophy. This petition will be sent to Commissioner Delany on November 30th, a few days before the inaugural Big Ten Championship game.

  • Demand a Constitutional Convention to Overrule the Citizens United Decision
Big spending on elections and lobbying is preventing meaningful action by Congress and state legislatures to address the urgent matters of severe unemployment, inadequate health care, and an alarming and growing disparity between the incomes and standards of living of the wealthiest 1% of our citizens and the remaining 99%. Under the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Citizens United case, spending by individuals and by corporations is constitutionally protected speech that cannot be effectively limited by Congress or state legislatures. The only way to undo the harms caused by the Citizens United decision is a constitutional amendment that removes the free speech obstacle to needed action by Congress and by state legislatures. Under Article V of the U.S. Constitution, at the request of the legislatures of two-thirds of the states, Congress must call a constitutional convention to consider the need for a constitutional amendment.

  • Congressional Reform Act
Much has been said in the last few years about the Founding Fathers and our constitution. One thing that is certain, however, is that the Framers did not forsee or intend the career politicians we are saddled with at this time. Serving should be a public service, not a chance to sell your soul to lobbyists while you forget that it is the American people that you are supposed to represent. We will have no true political change until big business, through their lobbyists, can no longer own our politicians.

  • Alhambra School District Move Your Money!
Community members in Phoenix, and concerned parents and residents in the Alhambra School District are asking the district’s Governing Board to transfer its investments (which are paid by our property taxes) from Wells Fargo bank to a Community based bank. We are asking you, as members of this community, to sign our petition urging the board of Governors to consider closing the Alhambra School Districts accounts at Wells Fargo Bank and moving these investments to a Community based bank. Wells Fargo bank is an international Banking institution that in many ways drains our community resources by not paying their fair share in income taxes, foreclosing on over 55,000 homes in the Phoenix area, and reluctance to refinance mortgages to help people stay in their homes.

  • Jumpstarting Laser Cutter for South Campus
This open letter is addressing the laser cutter set up for the full-time students at South Campus. We currently have the laser cutter (two-thirds completed) set up within the Media Design Studio. From our understanding there are two key components that the overall set up lacks : a fume cabinet, for obvious safety reasons, and also a new card reader. Our main concern is getting the new laser cutter to be set up for the Grad Community of Media Design and Fine Art - that have been patiently waiting. We come to Art Center for the experience of working with advance fabrication technology in a studio environment with like-minded peers. You can view the unfinished set up here: http://bit.ly/ucLX9S

  • ban hydrofracking in the Finger lakes Watershed
The Finger Lakes must be protected from the hydrofracking industry. It is an area of fragile, rural beauty with its watershed vulnerable to pollution. Its roads are too narrow and hilly for the heavy industrial trucking that hydrofracking will bring.

  • Allow Third Party Candidates into the Debates
The American government is falling apart. The two-party system is no longer serving the needs of the American people as a whole, which is causing the rise of stronger third party candidates and protests such as Occupy Wall Street. The American people need to know the platforms and names of candidates other than Republican and Democrat candidates to where they know that there are other options. This petition is to allow third party candidates from the Libertarian, Socialist Party USA, Green Party, and Tea Party to be included in national presidential debates. It will allow the American people to have an alternative to who they are voting for and give the third party candidates a chance to be known and heard instead of stifled because of the lack of corporate funding and support.
