• Keep Local St. Louis City Air Pollution Control
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) has cut all funding to the St. Louis City Air Pollution Control Program (SLAPCP), and the City Department of Health (DOH) has suggested the total elimination of the program in favor of DNR taking over. SLAPCP has stricter regulations that DNR will not have the authority to enforce, introducing a significant threat to health and safety in the St. Louis region. SLAPCP is already written into the City budget for fiscal year 2012 and has the capacity to operate as a self-funded program using fees defined in City Ordinance 68657. Local monitoring, permitting, and enforcement of air pollution regulations should not be eliminated in the city. The petition (with 430 signatures) was delivered on August 10, 2011 to the offices of Mayor Slay, Interim Director Walker and Commissioner Moore. We will keep the petition online and continue to collect signatures until the contract with the State expires on Sept. 30, 2011 and may print off and deliver updates at dates or decision points prior to that.

  • Let Max Geschwind Visit Northampton This Summer
Max misses all of his friends in Northampton. This summer now marks 2 years that he haven't seen them in person. He also know that his friends in Northampton miss him very much too from the various comments and messages he gets from his friends online. I'm asking you (his parents) if you can please let him visit Northampton for one week and he will pay for all expenses. This will mark the start of his independence and going into his adulthood and showing you that he can take care of himself and look after his needs that you have looked after for the past 14 years. You are great parents and I know you will have enough trust and faith in him to take on this adventure in his life that gives him the experience of being on his own and of having a fun time away from your watch. Thank you for your consideration.

The city of New Smyrna Beach has finally realized it is unlawful to outright ban the art of tattooing. Now, however, they are trying to zone tattooing in "Heavy Industrial" areas, making it close to impossible for shops to survive. Would you want a needle to go into your skin in a heavy industrial zone, right next to machine and auto body shops? NO! Sign this petition and stand with us against this injustice!

  • How About a Pay Cut for Congress?!
We the People pay Congress to do their job, and frankly they haven't been doing a very good one lately. Wasting our time and money over partisan power struggles and not caring if we default on our debt. They are the only workers I know of that take the liberty to give themselves raises, whether or not they deserve or have earned them. Yet there are members of Congress who would like to take away the hard earned benefits (like Social Security & Medicare) that ordinary people have contributed to all of their working lives.

  • Stop Using SSNVS for Voter ID Verification
With Voter ID laws in the country being passed in many states, many are perhaps using the SS Administration SS Number Verification System (SSNVS) to check citizens ID. This is against the Social Security Administration rules."It is not proper to use SSNVS for non-wage reporting purposes, such as identity, credit checks, mortgage applications, etc." http://www.ssa.gov/employer/ssnvrestrict.htm

  • Make Sure Our Politicians Are As Smart as a High School Graduate
I'm distressed at the fact that many running for public office say things that could easily be debunked by any person who can remember what s/he learned in high school U. S. History and Civics classes. To protect us from this kind of ignorance, we need to ask states to make it a requirement that any person running for public office must pass a standard high school lvel U. S. History and Civics test.

  • Support Palestine's Bid for Statehood
Since 1948, the Palestinian people have been displaced as a result of the creation of Israel, living in poverty with no opportunities. In September, they will present their bid for statehood (based on the 1967 borders) to the U.N. Security Council. Join me in calling for U.S. support of this bid, thus supporting the human rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. Let's grant them the independence and sovereignty they need to begin to prosper as a nation.

  • Arizona Representatives: Don't Default on the American Dream!
Arizona's Republican Congressmen have shown time and again that they are willing to bring the American economy to the brink of economic collapse to save tax breaks for billionaires and wealthy corporate interests. Don't Let Arizona Representatives Default on the American Dream! Please sign the below petition and if you're able, please join Arizona MoveOn members in dropping by your local Congressional office to deliver this message in person. Even as we create a long-term plan to rebuild the American Dream, we need to keep the foundation from being ripped out from under us. In this moment of crisis, we need to speak out as one voice in opposition to the immoral and damaging priorities in Washington. Our economy and much of what progressives have fought for over the last 60 years is at risk this week!

  • No Taxpayer Money to Support Retirement Pension for Congress or Senate
Raise revenue by ending federal pension funds for congress and senate members when they leave office or retire. Most congress and senate members move to lobbying positions, working for corporations and to expensive speaking engagements. If the Social Security Insurance fund we have contributed to in good faith for our retirement looks like a place to make cuts, let's cut, rather, from those officials complaining about government spending who are trying to undermine the very government that promises federal pension funds to support them.

  • "Supporting the Postal Service"
Please urge your Congressman the co-sponsorship of HR 1351. This bill requires the re-calculation of the mandated pre-retirement fund. Failure to pass this bill would potentially eliminate Saturday plus other days of delivery, once again this will cause the lose of 80,000 middle class jobs within the postal service, if not for the mandated Pension obligation the postal service would have made 650 million dollars from 2006 to 2010.
