• It's Our Money and We Want it now!!
This petition is about the mortgage mess. I want the Federal government to make the big banks use the money provided to modify for good the unscrupulous loan products those banks "sold" to hard-working, able americans who fell prey to the collapse of the economy. The architects of the housing collapse should be punished. We bailed them out. Now, they are holding us hostage. It's our money and we want it now!!

  • underwater
I would like to start a petition for home owners whose home values have dropped below their purchase price and who are not able to refinance due to new regulations of huge lending corporations which already have been bailed out by the government at least once and which are not only in my opinion criminal organisations. I would like to suggest to all home owners who are "under water" to stop paying mortgage payments countrywide. Nothing else is done for people who are left in this situation by anybody.

  • Eliminate No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
Every American student (except for 3% with serious handicaps or other issues) is supposed to be achieving on grade level every year, climbing in lockstep up an ever more challenging ladder. This flies in the face of research showing that children start off in different places academically and grows at different rates. • Congress: Please consider Puerto Rico's status!
Puerto Rico has been a commonwealth of the United States for 50 years and we the residents of the island are asking the congress of the United States to take action on this matter. The Congress has really not taken any action what so ever to change or view the actual status of Puerto Rico. Congressmen, can you please take action soon?

  • Group Health Insurance
I work for a state employer that allows me and others to get health insurance at low or no cost - because we are in a GROUP. I don't understand why insurance companies can't offer group insurance to individuals/families that are in the same region. The group shares the burden of the cost while getting the benefits.

  • End The War On Drugs
Today, more than 60% percent of America's imate population are incarderqted for nonviolent crimes. This government policy implemented more than 30 years ago by the Reagan administration has not only been capricious and unjust, in that minorities have been it primary target, it has also been one of biggest drains on taxpayer's dollars. This failed policy has been an economic burden on the American taxpayer, causing a never ending need to spend precious resources in order to build more prisons to incarcerate instead of spending those tax dollars to educate our children, not to mention, releasing violent criminals into our communities in order to relieve prison overcrowding. We must put an end to this government madness. Please help by signing this petition so that we can send the message to President Obama and Congress that we want this decades old failed policy to end, and stop the waste of American taxpayer's money.

  • Save Organic Dairy Farm families by raising the price they are paid for their milk
Organic farm families are suffering while processors and retailers thrive, and consumers have a product with a retail price 20ยข per gallon lower than in 2008 . A recently published summary of a seven year study by the University of Vermont showed that organic dairy farmers have lost equity in their business since 2006, suffering heavily in 2009, with many farmers only able to remain in business because of federal safety-net programs. Farmers can be saved by an increase in the retail price. Traditionally, a price increase is split three ways: between the farmer who produced the milk, the processor that packages the milk, and the retailer who puts it on a shelf. It is time that the retailer and processor respect their farmer partners and farmer-owners by passing the entire increase on to the farmers to keep them in business.

  • President Obama: Stop Inhumane Detention and Deportation
The Obama Administration has deported just under 400,000 people annually, nearly twice the number of immigrants deported on an annual basis by George W. Bush. Meanwhile, the President's Administration has failed to issue binding standards to improve inhumane deportation practices that separate families and regulations to address egregious conditions in immigration detention facilities, despite having promised that these regulations would be forthcoming. In fact, the President has gone full steam ahead in implementing and executing some of the most troubling legacies of his predecessor, including programs that have been decried by police departments across the country for forcing local police to engage in enforcement of federal immigration law, engendering distrust between police and the communities they serve and creating a public safety issue as mixed status families become less and less likely to approach state actors for help. President Obama has the power to make substantial changes to our system at any time. It's past time that he do so.
