Why should someone who has no health insurance be billed at retail rates that are two, three or more times higher that Insurance companies or Medicare pay these providers. It is my belief that the reason that Insurance has become so essential is that it is the only way that individual can protect themselves from being gouged by medical providers.

Rep Darrell Issa (R-CA) is attempting to introduce legislation which would dismantle the Postal Service and the collective bargaining agreement between labor & management. He states that the Postal Service is "bleeding money". Far from being a burden on the taxpayer, the USPS has, according to reports by the Inspector General and outside auditors, been overcharged by $50-75 BILLION for its employees pensions, thus subsidizing the Federal Treasury. In addition, in 2006, Congress and President Bush imposed an additional $5.5 billion annual tax on the USPS. The tax was supposedly to finance the health benefits of potential future postal retirees. The Postal Service is the ONLY organization, public-private-or government, required to make such a payment.

Whereas our corporate-owned Congress will not concede power to the American electorate, be it resolved that citizen organizations in favor of genuine democracy (e.g., Contract for the American Dream signatories, all unions public and private) will coordinate and pledge to stage 1-day general strikes, monthly, until Congress enacts constitutional amendments reversing Citizens United v. FEC and enacting public financing for campaigns.

This petition is intended to help millions of homeowners who are asking for a loan modification. It is common knowledge that banks will not even look at a loan modification request of homeowners who are current on their payments. This is forcing many homeowners - often adviced "unofficially" by the banks themselves - to stop making payments, and therefore enter foreclosure proceedings, or the the banks will not consider their loan modification requests. During the foreclosure/loan modification evaluations, which all too often last years, foreclosure fees pile up, interests on the unpaid amount accumulate, a continuous hardship is imposed upon families by the ever impending (moved month to month) auction date and the repeated requests by banks for more and more - and in half the cases, duplicate - documents. We need to change the way banks look at the loan modification requests and increase the homeowners range of choices to reduce their own liability. THE "FAIR ELECTIONS NOW" ACT" PROVIDES FOR PUBLIC FUNDING OF CAMPAIGNS, THUS PROVIDING CONTROL OF THE GOVERNMENT BACK TO THE AMERICAN ELECTORATE WHERE IT BELONGS.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus has an alternative budget plan that balances the budget sooner than the Republican/Obama compromise and does it in a way that all the polls say the majority of Americans want. Rather than reducing Medicare and Social Security benefits through privatization, it strengthens both. Google it.

Michigan cities need more and better public transit to create jobs, connect people to jobs, and help revitalize our economy. Right now, Governor Synder is developing his agenda on infrastructure and transportation. We want to make sure public transit is his top priority, especially giving local communities the tools they need to develop high quality public transit.
