• Banning "Dumb & Dangerous" Meters in Washington State
Technology should serve the people and not oppress the people. The more you study smart meters, the more you will NOT want them on your house or in your state. Hi Smart meters are being rolled out despite being a class 2b probable carcinogen, causing heart arrhythmia, head ache, other health problems and invasion of privacy. Private military organizations and utilities were awarded 3.4 billion to implement smart meters and smart grid against peoples wishes and behind the false premise of "green". We should be able to choose if we want our privacy invaded and if we want to expose ourselves to carcinogens. This invades our Constitutional rights to privacy, liberty and life. That's why I signed a petition to President Donald Trump, Governor jay Inslee, The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, The Washington State House, and The Washington State Senate, which says: “We the undersigned citizens of Washington State are very upset at the idea of having smart meters imposed upon us. We have researched this new technology and now understand that it is not healthy. Indeed, given their inaccuracies and health risks these meters are more accurately called “dumb dangerous” meters rather than "smart" meters. Smart meters/smart grid is an assault on the health of Americans and an invasion of our privacy. People should be informed about the risks of having a smart meter.People should not be charged a penny to retain their health and privacy. That is extortion and should be punishable be jail instead of funded by our government! Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) and legislators across the country need protect our constitutional right to heath, life and privacy! Corporations should not be able to profit at the expense of public health or by trampling on our Constitutional rights!"

  • Mayor Bill de Blasio: Close Rikers Island
It is unacceptable that society continues to turn a blind eye to the systemic racism that exists in the criminal justice system. While most of us don't have a daily/active role in the criminal justice system, we do have a say on funding spent on prisons. I suggest we measure every dollar we spend on prisons and jails against every dollar we spend on education and prevention.

  • Allowing competitor cable companies into Troy
Our cable bill goes up every month with no explanation and no additions services added. After the take over by charter communications, we have been charged more and more for the same or even less services and this needs to stop.

  • Fix Maryland's predatory toll road policies!
As described in the Washington Post, thousands of Marylanders are suffering because of our state's predatory toll road policies. Maryland charges a $50 per trip late fee on a $1.50 to $6.00 video toll. These fines add up and have resulted in suspended vehicle registrations, bankruptcies and even homelessness. We are calling on Governor Larry Hogan to take immediate action to fix this broken system: 1) Reduce the video toll late fee amount - $50 per trip is too high! 2) Stop suspending vehicle registrations for unpaid late fees. People who are unable to pay will be even less able to pay if they cannot earn a living. 3) Stop garnishing income tax refunds to collect unpaid late fees.

  • Support #RedForEd Educators in Arizona
Since 2008, Arizona has cut almost $1 billion in education funding. Shortchanging Arizona’s children by nearly $1 billion has consequences: textbooks that are 25 years old, leaking roofs, class sizes as large as 40 students, outdated technology, and inadequate support staff to keep students safe and systems working. On April 26, tens of thousands of educators and other staff rallied at the state Capitol in Phoenix to demand that elected officials provide adequate funding for Arizona’s public schools. To restore those massive cuts and create a continuous revenue stream for funding public schools and educators’ salary hikes, the Arizona American Federation of Teachers recommends: • Support for the proposed ballot initiative that would allow voters to decide on increased revenue from high-income taxpayers. • Legislative rebalancing of the “three-legged stool” of state revenue—the income tax, property tax, and sales tax. • Closing tax loopholes and reviewing all tax giveaways to make sure the state is getting an adequate return on tax breaks and tax cuts. The additional revenue raised could be used to fix older school buildings and build new ones—and pay off the lawsuit that contends the state hasn’t provided the required money for school site maintenance; create curriculum that is aligned to the state standards, and provide classroom necessities ranging from modern technology to basic classroom supplies; provide 100 percent funding for all-day kindergarten and for pre-K programs; restore arts programs, alternative education programs for special education students and classes for gifted students; or, provide a salary increase for all school staff—teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, secretaries and others.

  • Ethics Committee: Dismiss Scott Pruitt as EPA Director
Mr Pruitt has shown complete dismissal and arrogance in the job he has accepted in representing ALL of the citizens of our country, not just special interest factions. He is directly impacting my personal right, as well as EVERY PERSON IN THE USA who is concerned about their personal health and welfare. He has crossed 'the line in the sand'.

  • Paul Ryan is out of bounds
I have long experience in faith-based advocacy, which despite misrepresentation, is not partisan but is political as elected leaders need to be reminded that priority for the poor and vulnerable is at the core of all faith traditions.

  • No Public Traffic Access At 19th & O'connell
City staff wants to widen 19th Street between O'Connell and Harper to a 47-foot arterial width and connect it to O’Connell Rd at Venture Business Park. For perspective, the width of the three-lane 19th Street stretch north of Lawrence High School is less than 35 feet. Although the City claims otherwise, we know that opening the connection would dump traffic into the heart of our neighborhoods from commuters, game day traffic, and business park employees. The City claims they have to widen the street and connect it because: 1) buses and emergency vehicles need to get through 2) the water line has broken frequently 3) it is missing sections of sidewalk 4) there are no bicycle lanes 5) the pavement is bad 6) it has open ditches Instead, the 19th Street Neighborhoods Coalition proposes: 1) A gate at O’Connell, operable by buses and emergency vehicles 2) Replace the water line, as done in other parts of town 3) Install a 6-foot sidewalk on the north side 4) Install a 10-foot bicycle path on the south side 5) Keep the open drainage for better flood control 6) Repave 19th Street at 22 feet wide, like other streets

  • Tell Congress: Hold the Department of Justice accountable and stop this toxic mega-merger!
The Bayer and Monsanto merger would mean that only four companies control the entire market for seeds and pesticides. If the Department of Justice rubber-stamps this toxic mega-merger, it will further entrench the failing model of chemical-intensive agriculture, which is poisoning people and the planet. We need your help to push Congress to hold the Department of Justice accountable to stop this deal NOW!

  • Tell Congress: Reject the GOP Farm Bill!
The GOP’s Farm Bill doubles down on a failing food system that harms our health, decimates soil and pollinators, pollutes our air and water, and accelerates climate chaos. Big Ag and the Republicans are fighting hard to pass this disastrous bill. That’s why it’s so critical that your member of Congress hear from you. They need to know their constituents want to kill this horrible bill and go back to the drawing board to pass a bill that supports a food system that is good for farmers, consumers, and the planet.
