The United States needs a secretary of state who will represent the best principles of our nation to the rest of the world. Mike Pompeo is not that person. He is a supporter of the Global Gag Rule, which hurts our ability to promote reproductive health around the world. He opposes LGBTQ rights. As the top recipient of campaign donations from the Koch brothers, he has stymied action on one of the world’s most serious security threats: global climate change. He supports the use of torture. He has longstanding relationships with anti-Muslim extremists. And his hawkish views on Iran and North Korea could very well lead us into another disastrous war. For all of these reasons, Mike Pompeo is absolutely the wrong choice to serve as the United States’ top diplomat, and the U.S. Senate should #StopPompeo by voting "no" on his nomination.

There is no other social media company today that has the enormous global reach combined with the personal intimacy and immediate engagement of Facebook. Facebook is a corporate monopoly whose business model is surveillance and user manipulation. It is a threat to our democracy. No single private corporation should have this much power over our lives and our futures. It’s time for Americans to take control of our data and our democracy. We must make sure Facebook serves its users, instead of the other way around.

I have been doing research into the Palm Oil industry as a project for my Anthropology class, Living Primates. Upon conducting research, I found that Pepsi-Co uses the most amount of Palm Oil in the food and beverage industry. Pepsi-Co owns Frito-Lay, and I want to petition the usage of Palm Oil. I propose the use of Sunflower or Coconut Oil, or the development of an industrial-sized air fryer.

We want to fight against ISP providers who will be able to price gouge and throttle internet speeds when the new FCC rules are in place.

I have started this petition because I am extremely concerned with the quality of Spanish instruction that our children will receive, if they are not taught by a Certified Spanish teacher. As a parent who also happens to speak Spanish as a second language, I could tell you with certainty that our children will not benefit from sitting in front of a computer to learn Spanish. In order to learn a language, children need to interact with a teacher who has expertise in the language. In addition, when our children start West Essex Middle school, they will behind the other children from towns that have Spanish teachers in their school district.

A knee injury, caused by a bicycling fall, prompted a trip to Sarasota Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room. For their services that afternoon, SMH charged us $19,818. HealthCareBlueBook.com calculated the FAIR COST of all the services provided by SMH at $6,800. When I contacted SMH to discuss the FAIR COST, she responded (at first) they would "cut the bill in HALF, down to $9,909." Then, a correction, "I'm sorry but it shows here you have insurance, which means the charges can only be reduced to $15, 260." We must pay an additional $5,361 solely because we pay premiums on an insurance policy! That's a 54% increase! This price gouging/price discounting circus is NOT NEEDS-BASED. No questions were asked about income or assets. How is this system fair, especially for a taxpayer subsidized hospital? As a local resident and homeowner, 10% of my yearly property taxes go directly to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Emergency Medical Services.
