• Protect Public Access! Keep Kohanaiki (“Pine Trees") Jeep Trail Open!
For generations, Kohanaiki (“Pine Trees’) has been the heart of a huge part of Kona community's life and living Hawaiian culture. After 20 years of fighting development proposed for that coastal land, the community won many battles but lost the war to private golf course and luxury housing development. Environmental degradation incomparable to any that has occurred through generations of the land’s passive use is occurring, along with threats to traditional public access. For 60 years, the Public has been able to drive to the south end of Kohanaiki for camping, picnicking, subsistence fishing, and other recreational and cultural activities; but that access is slated to change soon. Without that traditional access, the huge, southern portion of the so-called "public park" will become an exclusive playground of the Rich. Is that okay with you?

  • put daylight savings back
Daylight savings is ruining two months out of every year of my life. The sun is in the wrong place during march and october. I used to look forward to "springing ahead". Now, I have to wake up in darkness again after three weeks of rising with the sun.

  • Got FiOS? Not in Brookhaven
Verizon refuses to bring FiOS to Brookhaven Town! There is no competition to Cablevision for telephone, television and internet/data services. Brookhaven residents pay higher rates to Cablevision than residents that live in towns that have FiOS. The digital divide grows! No FiOS means loss of jobs for the members of CWA 1108 in Suffolk! We ALL need FiOS in Brookhaven for good jobs and fair prices!

  • Better Air, Lower Health Care Costs
To continue to create healthier, safer air to breathe it seems like a Basic plan to cut down the amount of Cigarette smokers. To Triple the taxes/cost or even Quadruple the taxes/cost of cigarettes would definitely encourage young people to think twice before purchasing cigarettes. As a long ago reformed smoker I realize how precious each and every breath is. Both my daughters took an active part in Cancer Prevention projects and one of them was employed by the American Cancer Society for over 4 years fighting for Cancer Education and Prevention. A more prohibitive taxing/pricing in cigarettes would also possibly decrease the number of packs consumed by those whom still smoke. We need to take an even stronger stand for cleaner air for us and future generations to breathe. The "extra" monies garnered by increased cigarette taxes/prices could be added to current Health Care Insurers to lower the cost of Health Care in America and also strengthen our Education in schools to Stop children from seeing smoking as a "cool", adult (?) activity.

  • End the Big Oil Billion Dollar Bonanza
Subsidizing the oil industry is like giving Bill Gates a free computer (well, maybe more like giving him a few million free computers). The oil industry's profit was over $100 billion last year, making it the most lucrative industry on the planet, and yet U.S. taxpayers continue to give the oil industry money we don't have. As Congress debates what to cut to avoid a government shutdown, one of the first things it should consider—but isn't considering—are the more than $10 billion in taxpayer subsidies that we give to Big Oil every year.

  • Encourage the Rail Trail's Legislative Champions
The Senate conference has REMOVED the $2 million in funding for the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail, originally allocated in Governor Cuomo's Executive Budget from the Senate version of the budget. Although the $2 million item is still included in the Assembly version of the budget, this significant funding is now in extreme jeopardy. Let the Rail Trail's champions know how much you value their support and urge them to renew it to ensure the future of this project.

  • Petition to allow 8-character vanity plates in VA
As we're forced to pay exorbitant fees to operate our vehicles anyway, many drivers choose to order custom vanity plates. Believing we're still served by party lines and 5-digit phone numbers, the VA DMV has yet to expand our plates beyond 7 characters. Allowing 8 letters will allow for new, unique plate numbers plus more and better vanity plates, meaning more revenue. Let's go for 8 in 2013!

  • Do away with day light savings time.
Day light savings time makes no sense. Arizona doesn't change their clocks. Studies show that it doesn't save much energy, and they show that there are more heart attacks, more car accidents and sleepy students and workers for up to a week after the change. It is time to do away with it. Either spring a head and leave it or fall behind and leave or fall behind 1/2 this fall to split the difference and then leave it alone.
