Education and treatment of mental illness and substance abuse is important to the rehabilitation of convicted criminals. 80% of the population upon entry has one or both of these issues and have a better chance for rehabilitation if these programs are available to them. Education and treatment is the key to rehabilitation. These programs work and should not be cut from the prison system.

My Petition is targeted at the SC Hall of Fame, since I relocated back to South Carolina back in 1998, My wife and I discovered that SC had a hall of Fame, when we went there (Myrtle Beach) we discovered that as far as musician, John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was in the Hall of Fame, but not James Jamerson Sr. Mr. Jamerson has been a finalist for so many years but never inducted, Back in March 5, 2009 the SC House of Representatives passed a Resolution asking that Mr. Jamerson be inducted but yet nothing happened. Also In 1989 the book "Standing in the Shadows of Motown-The Life and Music of Legendary Bassist James Jamerson" was released. In 1999, he was awarded the Hollywood Rock Walk Award. Then in 2000 James was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2002 the documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" was released and it garnered Jamerson and the Funk Brothers two Grammy Awards along with the Grammy’s Life Time Achievement Award. In 2003 he was honored during a two-day festival given by the Avery Research Institute and the College of Charleston in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. During that event, the Mayor of Charleston presented the family with a Proclamation from the City of Charleston. In 2007 Jamerson and the rest of the Funk Brothers were inducted into the Musician's Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2008 he was awarded the Gullah/GeeChee Nation’s Anointed Spirit Award. On March 5, 2009, the South Carolina House of Representatives passed a Resolution asking for the induction of James Jamerson into the South Carolina Hall of Fame. On August 7th,2009 James Jamerson was inducted into "The Fender's Music Hall Of Fame". In 2011 James Jamerson was awarded BassPlayer Magazine Lifetime Acheivement Award. There is a woman in Scranton who is running a bed and breakfast business and a BDSM “dungeon” from which she is making money and she has no permits, licenses, tax identification number; no inspections for for preparing food and yet no one seems to care, not withstanding that this is a sex industry business! IN SCRANTON!! This is an outrage! Not only that, this woman has an 8 year old child who is exposed to all of this and no one cares!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG HERE??? Last summer, our area (the Schoharie Basin) was hit very hard by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Tom's parents lost their home & 50 years of memories. Tom and I lost our print shop, equipment and 1/2 our income. 2,500 other businesses and families have lost so much as well. Don't let the "cute" flood commercials fool you! Some of those who had flood insurance are still struggling to get paid, 7 months later. Those that have gotten paid were only given 80% of what their house is CURRENTLY worth not what they were insured for. Those not in a flood plain weren't required to have flood insurance and weren't aware of the "water clause" in their insurance policy. Mortgage companies are battling with insurance companies while families are still homeless wandering from place to place. FEMA trailers still sit in a parking lot outside the effected area rather than on the lots of damaged homes due to ridiculous laws. FEMA doesn't cover businesses or out buildings and the MOST a family received from FEMA was $30,000 to cover the damages to their homes and belongings. FEMA doesn't cover foundations or mechanicals in basements. They don't cover renters or their belongings. It also doesn't cover rental apartments or rental homes. The state allocated money to help families, farms and businesses get back on their feet as well as repairing county and town buildings, rental properties, infrastructure, roads and more.
