No Bridgasaurus in Salem! This petition calls on all organizations involved in the Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS, the metropolitan planning organization for the Mid-Willamette Valley) to discontinue the planning process (already $5.5 million over-budget and 4 years behind schedule) that is trying to come up with a rationale for building an unnecessary 3rd Bridge over the Willamette, a dinosaur of a project that reflects 1950s thinking and would be the most expensive public project in Salem history and would destroy Wallace Marine Park. Don't let "Bridgasaurus Boondogglus" stomp all over Salem for the next 30 years! There's a listserv you can join to stay informed about the effort to restore sanity and stop the absurd $800+ million 3rd Bridge project. To join this listserv and others opposing this Bridgasaurus Boondogglus, just send me a note at gearjm (at symbol) gmail.com and request an invite to join the No3rdBridge list, so that you can participate in the campaign and be informed about the issue. (You will have to create a google account if you don't already have one -- click "Sign in" to be taken to the account creation page.) Remember, you can control for yourself how much mail you get from this list-- you can set it to send you every message as they are posted, or you can get one daily digest (containing all of that day's messages), or you can even set to "no mail" which would let you view the messages at the website but not fill your inbox. Another thing you can do is use filters/rules to automatically move the mail you get from this list to a folder in your computer's email program. (Ask a young person how if you don't know how to tickle your mail program to do that for you.)311 of 400 SignaturesCreated by John Gear

Label Uganda as a state that sponsors terrorismWe all know about the "Kill the Gays" bill and the evil it would bring. Tell our government to list Uganda as a state that sponsors terrorism if this bill passes. We cannot let countless people die because of homophobia; we need to stand together and prevent this from happening!4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lincoln Disbrow

Colorado State Legislature: Establish a Deposit-Refund System for Beverage ContainersThere is currently a lack of economic incentive for individuals and small business owners to recycle in Colorado. As a result, many recyclables get sent to local landfills, our landfills fill up faster, and we take up more land--a limited resource--to deposit our waste. Also, the process of creating new containers requires more raw resources and energy than recycling old ones. Many states have successfully and effectively implemented container-deposit legislation and it is time that Colorado follows this precedent.232 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Allison Andrews

End "daylight savings time"This is a petition for the elimination of "Daylight Savings Time", when we change our clocks, either forward and backward, 2 times a year, with no understandable reason for this to occur. It is a disruptive, and in many cases, a confusing change to humans, pets and others affected by this practice.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sheila Delson

Make All Vets and Shelters Scan for Chips!!Thousands of pet cats and dogs have been euthanized in shelters every year because they could not locate the owner. Right now it is encouraged that shelters and vets scan pets that come in, but often it is only the first vet visit IF the person bringing it in admits it was found as a stray, and is still technically 'optional'. It takes seconds to scan for a microchip and would make a world of difference for pets and their families. It's not asking for a lot.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Katherine Lee

Mayor Bloomberg: Stop the Sandy Healthcare Crisis and BUILD BACK BETTERAfter Sandy, New York City’s healthcare crisis is still unfolding. Healthcare professionals warn that the aftermath of the crisis leaves New Yorkers vulnerable to the spread of infectious diseases, mold and dust, and clean-up hazards. Thousands of New Yorkers – in Staten Island, the Rockaways, and Coney Island – are still trapped in their homes with urgent and unattended medical needs. Many are still without heat, electricity, hot water, or adequate food. The storm has weakened a healthcare system that was already failing many of our city’s residents -- primary care facilities are not disaster-proof, emergency response is lacking, and the current infrastructure does not ensure care to all New Yorkers. Mayor Bloomberg needs to take immediate action to fill the gap in care and take this as an opportunity to rebuild a better city healthcare system that provides quality care to all New Yorkers. 1. FILL THE GAP IN CARE Take immediate measures to fill the gap in care left by hospital closures and the hospital bed shortage resulting from Sandy. 2. RE-OPEN BELLEVUE, CONEY ISLAND, THE VA, AND NYU LANGONE The Mayor must commit to a clear, safe, and expedited timeline for the full re-opening of Coney Island Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, the Manhattan VA, and NYU Langone Medical Center – and get those hospitals the resources they need to make it happen. And the Mayor must take immediate steps to fully restore the infrastructure at hospitals that were damaged by the storm, like Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island. 3. TAKE THE LEAD IN MEDICAL RELIEF - REQUEST HELP FROM FEMA The Mayor must take the lead in coordinating all medical relief efforts in the city, including regular monitoring of developing health concerns, adequate allocation and timely delivery of medical supplies, and regular communication and coordination with community-based relief efforts. The Mayor must also issue a formal request for much-needed assistance from FEMA. 4. BUILD BACK BETTER Sandy and its aftermath exposed the weakness in our city’s healthcare system. Many already lacked access to care before the storm hit. Now is the time for our city to re-invest in our healthcare infrastructure, including ensuring disaster and surge preparedness, rapid emergency response, and a stronger safety net. It’s time to rebuild a city healthcare system that serves all New Yorkers. Mayor Bloomberg, don’t let a healthcare crisis devastate our city. The time to act is NOW. Let's BUILD BACK BETTER.1,065 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Build Back Better

Equal Access at TSAAt large airports a special screening line is reserved for high-tier mileage program members and first class passengers. In some cases military personnel in uniform also have access but make up a very small share of the users. These lines, like all screening, are staffed by government employees. To respond to widespread complaints about TSA screening, a "Pre Check" program has been started which will entitle members to a somewhat less onerous screening process. However, signing up for this is through the airlines, who are restricting applications to their high tier mileage program members. Both of these are exploitable weaknesses in the screening process, as well as an exploitation of the security issue by airlines to promote their own marketing agendas. Airport screening is a police function, not a customer service function, and every passenger should receive equally thorough screening and equal respect. The special lines should be restricted to Pre Check members, and participation in Pre Check should not depend on membership or mileage status in any airline program.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alex Schneider
