As I near teacher retirement I find that even though my husband earned the main income in our home, I would not be entitled to a survivor benefit on his social security. If I had not worked or had worked in the private sector I would recieve this. Working as a teacher in Maine should not penalize us. Had I understood this when I first began teaching I may not have gone into this profession. Back in 1989 I received a ticket for not wearing a seat belt and paid a fine of $37 Dollars and I have worn one ever since. It didn't take a fine over $100 dollars to make me comply. A simple speeding ticket of over 10 miles per hour will cost about $200 and affect insurance premiums and that can mean no food or gas for the average american or jail time and family injury for a simple traffic infraction????????

On the television news, there have been pictures of people in line at the polls, having to wait six or seven hours to vote. This is unacceptable. It amounts, in effect to suppressing the vote, becuase not everyone could endure waiting, or disrupting their daily routine, for so long. There should be legislation to require state and local aurthorities to have enough staff on hand to handle reasonably predictable crowds of people without such long delays. State and local governments should be required to report long delays and prove that they have taken appropriate action to bring about a satsifactory decrease in the risk that such delays could happen again.

Do not buy an auto from this dealership, they are violating the labor laws. Moreover, they refused to pay employees when the employee tendered their resignation. This dealership had me running from one location to the next, and to this date they have refused to pay what they owed me.

The extrajudicial use of drones to kill supposed terrorists actually kill many more innocent women and children. More so, the use of drones actually terrorizes and traumatizes the entire population in areas where they are used as death and destruction comes without warning. Innocent men, women and children live in constant fear, afraid to gather in groups for weddings, funerals and other normal human functions, unable to sleep or behave in any normal fashion. Furthermore, these planned assassinations are based on conjecture and supposition without any due process and are morally and legally bankrupt. Their use creates greater animosity and hatred for the United states and more terrorist recruits. Their use is really self-defeating.

This petition is about all the people that get affected when a misdemeanor or felony record gets sealed or expunged, and the courthouses sell the case information to private companies, just after a very,very short period of time after being charged, exposing such records to prospect employers, without informing the outcome of the case, if the case was sealed/expunged, or if this case was dropped due to lack of evidence. Private back-ground companies buy criminal records from the courthouses, but the problem is that this companies fail to retrieve such record when the case gets sealed/expunged by Judge orders. I am not sure if the law don't require them to do so, or if its just the fact that they don't care about the individual's life and carrier. If a person would like to have their background completely hidden (court/companies), such person has to obtain a Judge order (process is about 6 months to 1 year) and after that this person would have to request/prove it, to each and every one of those same companies, state by state. A monumental task! I worked as a legal assistant in FL, and I couldn't believe it! Sometimes people get charged, and later, they are found innocent/not involved on the matter but that doesn't count! The fact of the matter here is, that you were charged and a criminal case was opened, and the outcome is irrelevant!!!; and the worst part of it, is that these people are charged with a non-violent crime, or there was a lack of evidence (innocent). This is a very important issue that could affect any of us in a personal and professional way; no one will hire you with a criminal record, and these records could be used against you in a custody battle, for example... If the government is clearing us of any charge, I don't understand why private companies don't have to comply in the same standard as our government.

In Michigan, same-sex marriage is illegal, as well as adoption by a gay couple. This petition affects 4.9 million gay people in the state of Michigan. We need to tell the Michigan government that these laws are cruel, discriminatory, and prejudice. This affects not only myself, but many others around me. It affects many communities around the state.
