  • PROTECT THE RIGHT TO VOTE WITHOUT PHOTO ID
The right to vote is fundamental. Without it, the true voice of the people cannot make their voices heard. The Republican-backed House Bill 108-88 that would require voters to show photo identification at the polls will SOON be voted on by the Senate. Republicans claim fraud as the reason for this bill. Their real aim is to make it difficult or impossible for elderly, black, Hispanic, youth, and our soldiers overseas, many of whom are Democrats and are less likely to have photo ID, to vote.

  • Ban the Studded Tire in Oregon
Studded tires cause huge damage to the roads and provide no safety benefit to drivers, except in extremely rare instances. Studdless tires do as well or better than studded tires in almost all instances. Oregon activist Jeff Bernards is organizing to get this initiative on the ballot. We need thousands of signatures on real State of Oregon initiative petitions to get this ban on studded tires on the ballot. Take action by signing this petition to join Jeff in passing this important ballot initiative here in Oregon.

  • NO to Jackson Labs in CT
A petition to Governor Malloy and relevant committees to prevent Jackson Labs from coming to CT. Jackson Labs is a forced breeding facility for animals who will be abused through experimentation in labs and the Governors plan will not have the fiscal benefits he has claimed. Animals used in experimentation endure the agony of isolation, fear, extreme confinement, invasive procedures without anesthesia or pain medicine, cold temperatures and noise. Please prevent such a breeding ground from entering our State.

  • ASK LOUISIANA TO COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS TREATIES!
Every member of the United Nations, including the United States, is party to one or more of the nine major human rights treaties which protect virtually every child, woman or man in the world. The United States is also a member nation of other organizations which have created their own treaties or conventions on human rights, such as the Organization of American States and the Council of Europe. Article VI, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, known as Supremacy of National Law, establishes the U.S. Constitution, U.S. treaties, and federal statutes as "the supreme law of the land" and therefore dictates that every individual state must comply with international treaties signed by the United States. The United States ratified the Council of Europe's Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons in 1983. The Convention allows for foreigners who have been convicted of any crime to be transferred to prisons or facilities in their home countries to serve out the remainder of their sentences in order to promote social reintegration at the conclusion of their prison term. The success of these human rights treaties in the United States depends on local authorities' familiarity with the treaties and adherence to them. Unfortunately, Governor Jindal, a case has been pending in Louisiana for over three years that evidences your administration’s failure - be it due to lack of awareness, neglect of duty, or blatant disregard - to adhere to the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons. Canada has been requesting the transfer of Scott Meyers, a prisoner at Angola State Prison, but the requests have been ignored. Mr. Meyers, born Wilfrid Allan Sutherland in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, was stolen from his mother’s arms at the age of four during the Canadian “60s Scoop” effort to eradicate his native Aboriginal Cree Nation tribe. He was “adopted out” to a New Orleans family, and was raised there, never forgetting the day he was ripped away. There is no doubt about the psychological impact that this horror had on Mr. Meyers and how this experience contributed to the events that led to his incarceration. His family in Canada has been located, and both the family and Mr. Meyers would like him to be transferred to a prison near them to serve out his time, so that he may finally have a chance to meet and get to know the family he lost so long ago. Former Governor Foster abided by the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons back in 2001 when he signed off on the transfer of Ms. Terese Terre to France. Governor Foster no doubt acted under LA Code of Criminal Procedure, Title XXX, Chapter 1, Article 892.3, which authorizes the Governor of Louisiana to act on behalf of the State and to consent to the transfer of such convicted offenders under the provisions of Article IV., Section 5(A) of the Constitution of Louisiana. We, the signers of this petition, implore you to abide by all international human rights laws which Louisiana is a party to, and take IMMEDIATE notice of this case by acting quickly and humanely and making sure that this man is returned home as dictated by those laws.

  • Maintain Low Class-sizes in West Contra Costa District!
Elementary Schools in WCCSD are poised to see our lower grade class sizes increase up to over 30 students per class. Most studies show kids benefit from low class sizes in every possible respect - - they perform better in school, they have less chance of falling behind and needing additional help, and they see more success in the future. Our school board has a chance to keep class sizes low in their upcoming budget. We’re calling on them to stand up for students and education and keep class sizes low!

  • Minnesota Policymakers: Protect Our Waters, Wilderness & Jobs From Sulfide Mining
Minnesota policy makers appear determined to allow the mining industry to have free reign in exploiting precious metals across a wide swath of our state's most valued wild places. The Superior National Forest is under assault from multiple international mining concerns who want our minerals in exchange for short term jobs and very real long-term environmental harm to water and wildlife quality. The byproducts of these activities WILL degrade recreational watersheds, drinking water, wildlife, personal property values and long-term economic viability of the adjacent communities. We are calling on our elected officials to protect our backyards and put the brakes on destructive sulfide mining in Minnesota. To learn more about this very real threat to our state's precious resources visit: http://www.facebook.com/MNMiningWatch

  • Congressional Reform - Reduce Pay and Benefits for Politicians
Politicians in Congress want to cut the pay and benefits of our fighting men and women because they haven't been able to effectively manage our money over the years. Yet, how many pay increases have they self-approved for themselves when the other 99% of Americans are struggling every day to make ends meet. Politicians get life-long benefits for severing only one term when our military sons and daughters have to serve at least 20 years for lesser benefits. No politician should earn $100,000+ a year in retirement when they are suppose to be a public servant working for the American people. Sign this petition to once and for all reduce the pay and benefits of politicians who are put in office to serve the American people; not their own selfish goals. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. Our Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. Reference: Pay Chart: • Congress Members (Representatives and Senators): $174,000 • Senate and House Majority/Minority Leaders: $193,400 • Cabinet Members: $199,700 • Speaker of the House: $223,500
