• Protect We the People, Not Corporate Lobbyists
Laws are supposed to protect our rights and help keep us safe - that’s just common sense. But last year, multiple politicians introduced and passed laws written of, by, and for corporations - specifically by the corporate front group the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). In recent weeks, ALEC has faced renewed scrutiny. This is partially thanks to revelations that they have worked diligently (and secretly) to pass Kill-At-Will laws like Florida’s that let Trayvon Martin’s killer go free, union-busting laws like in Wisconsin, and voter suppression efforts across the country. ALEC is not just another conservative advocacy outfit. An estimated 98 percent of their funding comes from big corporations, not grassroots members. Corporate lobbyists write ALEC “model legislation” and then send these bills off to state capitols around the country - including to Republican politicians in Lansing, several of whom were caught last year paying their ALEC dues with taxpayer funds.

  • Chase Bank's Illegal Foreclosure Attempts
J.P. Morgan Chase illegally attempts to foreclose on properties. In order to foreclose and gain equity Chase placed an escrow account on my mortgage by paying the county taxes on my property one day early, before they were due. This created an escrow account which they said my payments were short paid and placed them in escrow instead of applying them to my mortgage payment. They did this for 6 months and then refused to take my payments placing the property for sale on the court house steps. After recording an assistant to the CEO's office admiting Chase could not explain their actions, he assured me Chase would straighten the matter out. They never did apply the correct payments or credit my overpayments toward the principal instead of the late fees that they illegally assessed. That was last year in April. I just received another letter this April advising me my house was in foreclosure AGAIN and was to be sold May 1, 2012.

  • End Excessive Executive Bonus'
The law banning or establishing a maximum on executive bonus' should be expanded or clarified to include all types of executive bonus' no matter what they are called. Companies are getting around the law which bans or sets a maximum amount that can be given as "executive bonus'" by simply changing the name to executive incentive bonus'." This is particularly galling because it is being done by Wall Strret companies who, I believe, created the financial crisis in the first place. Some continue to give out millions of dollars in those kinds of bonus' while laying off hundreds of their non-executive workers.

  • Family Data Plans Now!
Major Cellphone companies are making historic profits and continue to charge families more for data than individuals. Why do families pay $100/mo. for 1.5 Gigabytes of data when an individual can buy 3 GB of data for $30? (based on AT&T plans comparing 5 phones on family plan at 300 MB each vs individual with 3 GB plan.)

  • Minnesotans want GMOs labeled!
The Minnesota Legislature is considering a bill that would label foods containing genetically engineered ingredients (GMOs). More than 9 out of 10 consumers support labeling GMOs. Yet the Minnesota House just voted against this measure. And in the Minnesota Senate, it hasn't even gotten an initial committee hearing. Now's the time to tell legislators: I have a right to know about GMOs in the food I'm buying!

  • Uniform Sound Act
On television and radio, the commercials are routinely made to play much louder than the regular programming. This is an offense to the ears of all Americans and an imposition upon all American citizens of all political bents. A strictly-enforced rule should be enacted to forbid this practice.

  • Redress the U.S. Supreme Court
Corporations are not people, and the decision to allow corporate interests to fund as much money without disclosure into political campaigns is clearly unconstitutional this decision should be thrown out. More than any other preceding law, this one decision does more to undermine the integrity of our political system and allows corporate interests and their deep pockets to literally steer this country away from "for and by the people" , to "for and by the corporations. I cannot imagine our founding forefathers signing on to something that distorted.

  • Homeowner's "Bailout" Investigation
Nationwide, banks are foreclosing homes. Many people are left without homes and are in financial ruin. This petition requests an investigation of the Banks, who purchased "Credit Swaps" against defaulted loans, and an investigation of when and how the credit swaps activated. Furthermore, it requests an investigation as to whether the banks are wrongfully foreclosing on properties, for which they may have been already paid through the "credit swaps."

  • Bans PACS, SIGS, & Internet Money From Politiccs
Currently the public is secondary to the greedy interests of many elected officials. They give corporations tax credits to the extent that they pay no taxes and are actual paid, annually, by the IRS, often to the tune of millions of dollars per company. If politicians weren't controlled by the banks they wouldn't hand them billions of dollars of our money, without our consent, and then not audit the money nor care that the banks still do not loan money to people. (There are clients at Housing Departments in NC that are subsidized a 30% mortgage down-payment by the agency and the agency guarantees the bank that the debt will be paid if the client defaults--and they still cannot get help from the banks.) We would also have much less war if the politicians weren't owned by defense contractors and oil men. Washington is rampant with corruption and conflicts of interest dictate our laws and actions. It is sick and corrupt and disregards almost all of the non-elite. Washington has become a gross perversion of what it was meant to be and we are all paying for it. I would suggest subsidizing campaigns to equalize the candidate's resources so that their only motivation was to cater to the people they are supposed to work for.
