Time and time again, the far-right majority of the Supreme Court has put special interests and politics ahead of people and above delivering justice under the law. But we cannot and will not be silent. Student debt fuels economic, gender, and racial inequality. Our persistent racial wealth gap means that students of color, especially those who are Black and brown, are more likely to have student debt, borrow in higher quantities, and face more struggles in repayment. A higher education should be the key to a better future, instead of a lifetime debt sentence that limits borrowers’ ability to buy homes, start small businesses, and save for retirement, cutting into opportunities for wealth-building over their lifetimes. This is why student loan cancellation is so important. Trump's agenda includes dismantling the Department of Education (DOE), which would have devastating impacts on our communities. The DOE oversees the Pell Grant and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which gives aid to college students who need financial aid. The DOE also enforces the civil rights of students, and supports school programs that support students with disabilities. But Trump, Republicans, and Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices cannot have the last word. We won’t let them win. We have to push back and be in solidarity with each other. Together, we can keep getting loud to show the President Biden that he has the power to to give millions of Americans the student loan relief they need and deserve. President Biden must cancel student debt via executive order before Trump and Republicans gain control over all three branches of our federal government. Will you sign the petition?

What significance does Thrive House Shelter hold for both me and others? The Thrive House Shelter provides a supportive shelter serving as a vital safe haven for countless black and brown trans women who are survivors of violence.  This shelter is a crucial step in addressing the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals, particularly Black and Brown trans women who often encounter homelessness and violence. The Thrive House was founded by Sarah Pope and Maxine Tory aims to provide a safe, trauma-informed environment who have experienced homelessness as Sarah herself, emphasizes the need for a dedicated space where trans individuals can access temporary housing, meals, healthcare, and emergency support services. The shelter is designed to be a sanctuary where individuals can find not only physical safety but also the resources necessary for long-term stability and well-being. Sarah Pope's vision for Thrive House Safety is rooted in her personal experiences and a deep commitment to making a tangible difference. She explains, “So many people have talked about building a safe space and the lack of housing for black and Bbown trans women, but nobody has actually tried to make an effort to change this. I didn’t want to keep talking about it. Let’s actually do something about it.” “This place allows me to truly be myself without any constraints.” “This space holds a deep sense of sacredness for me and my sisters, allowing us to strengthen our bond and inspire one another. ” “This is a place I can always rely on. Veggielution Community Farm, operating within the park, plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity by providing fresh produce and educational programs to low-income families. Multiple groups supporting Sen. Cruz’s campaign in Texas have spent nearly $16 million on aggressive ads bashing support for transgender athletes competing in women's sports. It’s overwhelmingly clear that Cruz and his cronies would rather spout blatant lies than talk about the real issues impacting Americans. Lying about trans kids is just the latest tactic in their playbook of distracting voters from the GOP’s dangerous agenda—an agenda that would criminalize essential health care and make communities less safe for our children. Contrary to what these sham ads would have you believe, the reality is that gender-affirming care is backed as medically necessary by leading health groups like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  We need to elect leaders who value honesty, transparency, and the truth. The health of our kids and our entire democracy is at stake. Republicans must stop running ads with blatant lies. Sign the petition to demand Ted Cruz and Republicans pull these dishonest and dangerous ads from the air!

The 1927  landmarked Montclair Firehouse was once one of the shining jewels of Oakland.  Constructed from steel-reinforced concrete, the building itself is in good condition.  The City's application of a gunite material over the copper roof in the 1960's perfectly protected the interior. Two seismic studies have made very cost-effective recommendations for retro-fitting the building.  The MFAC Nonprofit has obtained current estimates for renovating the building, with all required City permits, and has submitted those, along with a complete Business Plan and Proposed Lease, to the City Real Estate Department, the Community and Economic Development Committee of the City Council, and Councilwoman Ramachandran with no response in 15 months. It is time to make The Montclair Firehouse Arts Center happen in this abandoned building.  Public buildings should be used by the public.  This one has been neglected and abandoned for 35 years by the City of Oakland.  Such waste is shameful.  The MFAC is a community-based citizen group with a proven track record of renovating an abandoned public building in Piedmont into The Piedmont Center For The Arts.  Please help them give this same gift to our Montclair community, at no expense to the City.  A beautiful Arts Center in a building the City has simply abandoned.

The concept of a ban on fracking in Pennsylvania has been getting a lot of attention in recent weeks. But banning fracking in a place where it has been happening for 20 years is not the same thing as banning it where it has never happened. What must happen here and what will happen is a phase out of fracking. How rapid the phase out is will determine how smoothly the public, workers, and entire communities will be able to make the transition. We're calling on Governor Shapiro and our state legislators to start the rapid phase out now and urging them to take the steps we have listed.

This matter AFFECTS EVERYONE! People should join in on my campaign for change because this could help them live longer, healthier and happier lives. We could also be a little more carefree by potentially starting to have more trust in our government and other organizations that we are supposed to count on to protect us, when we are unable to protect ourselves.

The Justice Department’s election crimes manual states that “Paying voters for registering to vote, or for voting, in elections in which a federal candidate is on the ballot” is basis for federal prosecution. And as if giving away $1 million a day weren’t enough, Musk is also offering $100 to registered voters in Pennsylvania who sign his pro-Trump PAC petition, and he had previously offered $47 to any voters in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Carolina who referred their friends to the petition. Let’s be clear: Elon Musk is using his billionaire status to manipulate this election in favor of Trump. This is a clear violation of election laws, and it is a federal crime. In 2017, Donald Trump and Republicans passed a law that would give the ultra wealthy a $2.3 TRILLION tax break. Now, America’s 748 billionaires are worth a collective $5 TRILLION, up 77% in just seven years. Make no mistake about it: Elon Musk knows that if Donald Trump wins, he and his billionaire buddies will continue to get richer at the expense of workers, with no accountability. This is why he has gone all in on Trump, attending Trump rallies, and even starting a pro-Trump Super PAC, a political action committee that can raise an unlimited amount of money with no restrictions on who donates. Trump himself has publicly shared that he would offer Musk a Cabinet position, and Elon’s already made it clear that he would accept and says he “can’t wait” to work for a Trump White House. Jacobin reports that if Trump wins and Elon Musk gets appointed to a Cabinet position, he “could reap one of the largest personalized tax breaks in American history.” Elon Musk is stopping at nothing to tip the scales in favor of Trump. He must be investigated for attempting to use his wealth to bribe voters and buy votes in swing states NOW!  Will you sign the petition and then send it to three friends to spread the word? 

A prime example of this "sanewashing"—attempting to downplay a person or idea’s radicality to make it more palatable to the general public—from media outlets as it relates to Trump: His Pennsylvania rally from just a few weeks ago.  Donald Trump went on a profane, nonsensical rant about Vice President Kamala Harris at a Pennsylvania rally. But this isn't the first time that he's gone on unhinged rampages on the 2024 campaign trail. Another prime example is Donald Trump falsely calling himself the "Father of IVF." He consistently still espouses the "Big Lie" that the election was stolen, and calling January 6 "A Day of Love." None of this is normal, and no one, especially reporters, should be treating this behavior like it is.  Reporting isn't just reporting the facts and quotes, there's a need for reporters to be authentic and truth-tellers in a world of disinformation and misinformation. When Biden was in the race, articles slammed him over and over for his debate performance, calling in to question his mental health, his age, and whether or not he's fit to be president at all.  And whether or not you agree, the parity between the reports on Biden's physical health from one debate and Trump's frequently nonsensical remarks in interviews and at his rallies is simply not equal and on par.
