I think there should be fact checkers at the presidential debate

To restore Marines to provide and protect our Embassies around the world. Yes I experienced this first hand. I live in Egypt at the moment. On 22 Aug I had to get papers notarized by the Embassy. The Embassy had Egyptian people as security guards. The outside had lines of people to get in for service and others just milling around. It was not a good feeling..........now you see what happened this past week. The security did nothing but fled.

We need a national program to study severe mental illness and find treatments and prevention. So many times lately we hear of young men who's lives have come apart and they have killed dozens of people. Something happens to these apparently normal people that cause them to become terrorists. It is not politics. They seem to have become deranged for no good reason. We need study to help prevent these tragedies and save lives.

Common Core initiatives and high-stakes standardized testing are about control and not quality education. Students' academic success should not be tied to a test score to determine their ability to learn, and teachers' pedagogy should not be tied to a test score to determine their ability to teach: Education (and the process of obtaining it) is much more than a single grade.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar using the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has removed the grey wolves in Wyoming from the endangered species list. The wolves in Idaho were delisted earlier which led to the state of Idaho authorizing the killing of almost all the wolves in Idaho by setting no limit on the number of kills. Three hundred and seventy wolves have been killed in Idaho so far out of 1000 wolves. The state of Wyoming has plans to kill almost all the wolves in Wyoming. Hunters will be able to kill the wolves on sight in 85% of the state.

The NHL and NHLPA are again in a lockout. As fans we control the review stream of the sport not them. Show them that fans are just as united and will stand together to boycott the NHL if we miss even one game due to this lockout.

There should be another way to support our school systems other than taxing homeowners, especially those of us that are retired on a fixed income and the folks with no kids in school. Spread the burden equally to all citizens. There are ways to do that now.

During the past 50 years little has been done to mitigiate the flooding caused by the Susquehanna River. The DEC has set strict guidelines for removing debris from feeder creeks making it difficult to keep new debris from forming islands and clogging the river bed. Countless business have been forced to relocate and hundreds of families have lost their homes because of the shallow depth of the Susquehanna River and numerous gravel deposits that have formed within the river. Instead of spending millions of dollars every few years for FEMA to assist flood victims, the Corp of Engineers should dredge the river from Binghamton, NY to the area where the Corp. of Engineers rerouted the Susquehanna River around Corning, NY. The end result: millions of dollars would be saved, the Susquehanna River would be navigational and clean, and wildlife would flourish. Residents and businesses would have a sense of security. The gravel taken from the Susquehanna would be welcomed by town and city highway departments thus helping to save money. The residents of Vestal, NY get their drinking water from wells under the Susquehanna River. The Johnson City sewer plant, which is located adjacent to the Susquehanna River, flooded numerous time during the past 40 years. During the flooding, the plant released raw sewage into the Susquehanna River. Where fish once flourished, now they glow.

How shocking is it in this age of global warming and climate change to walk by a department store with its AC or heat going full blast, while the doors stand wide open? While we all understand the objective of drawing customers into the store and making money, it is time to put a stop to such environmentally irresponsible choices that are so simple to remedy. Using indoor climate control? Close the door!
