Gov. Rick Scott and some Florida legislators are rushing full steam ahead to enact legislation, specifically SB 2036 and SB 2038, that would privatize governmental services and agencies without public input. They are trying to pass these bills as early as THIS WEEK. These bills will compromise public safety, cause unemployment, and hurt communities and small businesses across Florida. This scheme starts with immediate plans to privatize 29 prisons in 18 counties in south and central Florida with NO EXIT STRATEGY should things go wrong. No other state in our nation has given contracts to private prisons at even close to this level. As a correctional officer, I know firsthand that if this bill passes, many of my fellow officers will be out of a job. Families and children of my fellow officers will be uprooted. In some communities, this will significantly alter public school funding. There are literally thousands of public servants whose families will be impacted if this bill becomes law! These bills are physically and economically dangerous, and the effects irreversible. Here’s just some of what they’d do: • Squander taxpayer money to reward political donors. Florida is already riddled with past and present issues of corruption, over-billing, mismanagement and failure to maintain our public facilities by privately-run correctional corporations. Enough is enough! • Hurt small businesses across Florida. Unemployment will rise. The officers that will be hired will be paid less. This means less money spent in our communities. • Put your family’s safety on the line. Did you know that private prisons do not chase escaped inmates past the perimeter like the public prisons do, which means more escaped prisoners in our communities? And private prison corporations have often failed to live up to legal requirements in the past. This bill will just make the problem worse.

This isn't exactly a petition -- more of a campaign. There are lots of villains on the right in the wake of the Citizens United decision, but the biggest pigs in the puddle are the Koch brothers. I don't know all their products -- Georgia Pacific is one that makes a lot of paper products. Move On members should very publicly state that they will not buy any product associated with the Koch brothers. We need Move On's research department to ID them all. If we can have an impact with Koch other businesses, who dread having their products dragged into public controversy, will get the message. This is how to deal with Citizens United -- at least in the short run.

Each member of Congress named on this petition has supported one of the twelve constitutional amendments that have been proposed in Congress to reverse the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. These proposals are similar, and they all include variations on one or more of the following principles. 1. Money is not speech, and Congress has the authority to regulate the use of money to influence elections 2. Corporations are not people, and Congress has the authority to regulate corporate engagement in the political process 3. Federal campaigns should be publicly financed We now challenge the leaders who stand behind these proposals to take the next step. We call on them to merge their many proposals into one, to unite behind it, and then to present that proposal to the American people by July 4th of this year.

The conservative-controlled state legislature in Minnesota wants to use the Minnesota state constitution to take away our right to vote. They are pushing a constitutional amendment toward the November ballot that would restrict voting only to those who can present a photo I.D. with their current address. Tens of thousands of law-abiding Minnesotans would lose their right to vote. This is nothing more than a modern day poll tax - an intentional attack on our democracy by corporations and the 1% who want to permanently cut out whole swaths of the electorate.

We want our Attorney General to join with the Attorney General of NY, Eric Schneiderman, in the investigation of Wall Street Banks and to prosecute those that were responsible for our current economic condition. We ask him and our Senators to make sure those, in Nebraska, who suffered loss due to fraudulent practices, get a fair share of money or receive help in renegotiating their mortgage.

President Obama's administration has abjectly failed to prosecute the top Wall Street and bailed-out bankers who devastated our economy with fraud. Now he's claiming to get tough with a new prosecution unit, but it's got the same failed leadership. We need President Obama to get real about prosecuting the people who wrecked our economy.

The banks robo-signed my adjustable rate loan and when I became disabled, they didn't want to give me a loan modification that I could afford, rather, they want to foreclose.

I actually have 2 bank stories...one involving he loss of my residence, and the other regarding the bank automatically attaching an automatic overdraft to my account, and continuing to honor checks that inadvertently overdrew my account and continuing to honor checks until I was significantly overdrawn and then tacking on 'inhumane' fees and fees on top of those fees....although I informed them, when I found out from the bank that I was in significant arrears, that my understanding of a 'debit account' was that if/when the account reached zero, nothing that came in would be paid and a check would bounce therefore.....apparently they have some fine print in their agreement that refutes this! Be that as it may or may not, this was just prior to the government cracking down on the policy of 'milking' overdrawn customers with LAYERS of fees and penalties. I sent a letter protesting this potentially fraudulent practice of intentionally allowing accounts to develop serious arrears so that they can 'milk' them to the CEO of US BANK.. He did not answer and I wasn't able to get anything resolved, except discovering that I was blackballed from opening another bank account. I believe that this practice is illegal and the whole banking experience, like this one, for the average guy is intimidating! The loss of my house regards, among other things, either inaccurate, or no appraisal's..horribly inaccurate and over-valued estimates of property value, and bank collusion with mortgage companies to 'create' numbers, at any cost, that will work to acquire the fraudulent loan! I could go on and on......I believe that my house was stolen from me!

Facebook founders are forcibly going to change our profiles to the so called timeline, therefore making it more stalker friendly with confusing ways of hiding our information. Let's sign this petition for them to change that policy by February 15th or else we shutdown our accounts and have advertisers migrate.
