The prohibition of alcohol was a complete failure, and the current prohibition against marijuana is, and always will be a complete failure in which our government is spending over a billion dollars a year of our tax money trying to enforce an insane law that has ruined tens of thousands of lives by sending non violent "criminals" to for profit prisons. Over 50% of all Americans have stated that they want this insane and impossible to enforce law overturned, and 70% of all Americans agree that medical marijuana should be made available to those in need of this cheap and easily gotten natural herb that has been proven to help many unfortunate people suffering from serious diseases. The billions of dollars that are wasted trying to enforce this insanity could be much better spent on things like education, health care, roads, bridges, green energy and much more.

Israel has been getting away with murder for far too long and we cannot rely on our elected representatives in Washington to turn the tide because they have been muzzled by the Israeli lobbies like AIPAC and ADL and they also rely on their money and votes.

Every President, according to the Constitution, has a responsibility to commute sentences of worthy inmates. President Bush & President Obama have the worst records but it's not their faults. Ronald Rogers has withheld worthy petitions, and withheld supporting documents. He should be replaced by someone who is just, fair, compassionate & competent.

It should be criminal that we are destroying people's lives and wasting manpower and money on a substance less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. If our president was arrested for his admitted drug use, he wouldn't be our president. Stop the hypocrisy.

My son's dad has been in prison for almost thirty years on a 25 to Life Sentance. He is now in his early fifty 's with a variety of health issues. When he was arrested for murderer back in 1986, he was suffering from a sever brain injury and was threatened with the death penalty if he did not take a Life Term plea bargain. He had no previous criminal history and his crime was committed in the hopes of protecting children who were being abused by the victim on a regular basis. He is now much recovered from the injury and knows he committed a horrible crime. His is only one story out of hundreds. Another Lifer inmate has been in prison over thirty years for the crime of accidently killing his mother's boyfriend as he was beating severely beating her. He too is over fifty years old with no release in site. Both of these men committed one crime, both to protect a weaker person and both are serving Life sentances and both are now elderly and suffering from health issues that, collectively, cost state tax payers thousands of dollars a year in health care. A decade ago, the state housed 6000 inmates 55 and older. In 2012 it is more like 14,000 over 55. By 2017, there will be an estimated 20,000. That is an amazing figure. Even Judge Anthony Kline knows that "recindivism among Lifer prisoners is less than 1%. " Let our Lifers go home when they have served their time. Save the state money. Thank For your time. Prison statistics are daunting.The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world. At year-end 2009 it was 743 adults incarcerated per 100,000 population. Something's not working. Something needs to change.

I'm always curious about what is the agenda for black men, every election cycle presidential candidates court and cater to all voting blocks except young black men. Our issues seems to always tied down with all others issues, which in affect doesn't let us focus on the major issue facing young black men. The Trayvon Martin case is a perfect example of why we need transparency and equality, even though this disproportionately affects young black men, it's equality for all. No mother/father would like to know that her son died and his body lay for 3 days before any notification. We need to practice what we preach and set a good example in our communities. If we want cooperation and a better community the police department should lead by example. they should hold every officer accountable and get rid of their oath,their version of 'stop snitching" because they allow cover ups to occur without accountability... I know this is a hard line to thread but its necessary, because we do need officers in our community, but we want everyone to feel protected and have these officers playing with our kids instead of killing them...

This potation is to protect our youth from being a victim of the courts. The courts "MUST" inform you of your rights instead of "MAY" inform you of your rights! Under Alabama law you are not considered an adult until the age of 19. But if arrested and charged under the age of 21 you have the right to file for a youthful offender status up to 5 times if you have not claimed adult status on any prior offense. The problem with this law is the courts are not required to inform a youth of these rights. The reading of the Act says we "may" inform and not we "shall" inform. When the youth of Shelby County have gone before Judge Ronald Jackson, he has not informed them of their full rights and has had many who could have claimed youthful offender status for minor offenses such as drinking under age. They are charged as adults. This goes on their permanent record and effects their future. Judge Ronald Jackson stated in a recent case that it would open up a flood of people coming back if he corrected a ruling presented to the courts in a case requesting youthful offender after prior being charged as an adult for under age drinking. The offender was not informed of their rights to be able to claim youthful status prior to their plea. The court MUST be responsible for informing youth of their full rights before asking for a plea. The wording need to read The courts "MUST" inform you of your rights instead of "MAY" inform you of your rights due to some judges interpretation of the wording. THIS MUST BE CORRECTED BY OUR LEGISLATORS.

On Sunday July 1, 2012, Saginaw Police were dispatched to the Riverview Plaza where they encountered a mentally challenged man who had a small knife in his possession. Witnesses say officers demanded that he drop the knife or they would release the K-9s. Witnesses say instead of releasing the dogs, officers opened fire -- striking the man numerous times -- killing him. Officers claim the man rushed in at them. Many in the community believe the mentally ill victim could have easily been brought down by use of taser or K-9s, and that law enforcement used excessive force. Also, there were many children and families shopping in the plaza during this time. We are calling for our officials to do the right thing and change how officers deal with individuals who have non-firearm type weapons.
