  • TELL THE TRUTH & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
All US citizens are required to tell the truth when testifying in our legal courts. If we do not we are subject to punishment by the law. So why should the same rules not apply in the choosing of our soon to be law makers. With all the constant lying that has taken place in our last elections. It has gotten to the point we can't trust any them to tell the truth. How can we have an honest government if they continue to lie to us whenever they like. Enough is enough.

  • No More Phone Calls-- Time to March
You know what upsets me? Listening to the news and the democrats/republicans tackle the fiscal cliff like it is a poker game. But this is not a poker game--this is our lives. Millions of Americans will be affected by decisions that only a few people will make. We can not just sit back and let them ruin our future. We need Medicare, we need Medicade. Our parents and grandparents need their Social Security. A 64 year old should not be required to work to survive. They have taken care of their family for over 40 years. No more phone calls--Washington just empties their mailbox. WE need to apply pressure. We need to get out in the street and march. They will only do to us what we allow them to do. More people can not suffer. So we March-- Sunday, December 23rd to your nearest Occupy meeting area. I am in Richmond, Ca-- I will be headed to Oakland. The time for change is now. WE can make this happen.

  • Don't Demolish Stmford's Commuter Parking Garage
The current plan by the CT Dep't. of Transportation (CT DOT) is to allow a private developer to develop a mixed-use, for-profit project on the site of the current public garage for commuters at the Stamford train Station. The developer WILL NOT have to provide ANY PARKING SPACES for commuters. Instead, the CT DOT will build a new garage for commuters FAR AWAY from the train station. Hearings on the plan are not being adequately publicized; in fact no signs are ever posted in and around the commuter garage to inform commuters about the hearings.Hearings are held with little or no notice, and citizens are not even allowed to see what the developers' project is, thus they do not allow for "hard look" at the project because the project remains a secret! I am a commuter who parks at this station and has been unable to attend the 2 hearings that have occurred, because I don't have adequate notice, and am unavailable at such an early time, when I, and most commuters are still working. Unfortunately, this lack of attendance at hearings is being interpreted by the CT DOT as lack of opposition to this scheme. Commuters will be very upset to learn that their commuter garage is about to be demolished, and that some developer is about to make a lot of money on a secret real estate development deal with the CT DOT!

The media coverage has been non-stop since the terrible events of December 14th at sandy Hook Elementary. The people of Newtown, Conn, are dealing with prying reporters as they try to grieve. As the holiday's approach, the media needs to be respectful and leave these people alone.

  • Spitzer for head of SEC
We have yet to have a head of SEC who isn't bullied by Wall Street. Eliot Spitzer has proved that he understands how Wall Street works, he is not intimidated by their bluster, and he wouldn't use his office to audition for a position in a Wall Street firm. We cannot afford to waste one of the most savvy experts on high finance in our country.

  • Bill Cosby & Roland Martin: Say no to guns in schools
Like teachers across the country, I take my commitment to my students' safety very seriously. That's why I was so disturbed when the Michigan legislature passed a bill that would allow concealed guns in places like schools and day care centers. The recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut drew more attention to this bill, but here in Detroit, we already know too well that our schools and communities need fewer guns, not more. Thankfully, Governor Snyder vetoed the bill after days of public disapproval. But this bill should never have gotten as far as it did. Ensuring that schools are safe spaces for students to learn should be a basic point of agreement for every education- and youth-focused group. Keeping weapons off campus is vital to those goals. But StudentsFirst, founded by Michelle Rhee, endorsed and supported 15 candidates who were eligible to vote on the bill. Of those 15 legislators, 14 of them voted in favor of the bill to allow concealed weapons on campus. When the Huffington Post reached out to StudentsFirst, they initially declined to oppose a bill that would have opened schools up to strangers with concealed weapons. They only said they opposed the bill after it was vetoed, and they haven’t made any promises to consider issues like student safety when making future endorsements. This is troubling, but Bill Cosby and Roland Martin, who sit on the national board for StudentsFirst, have both been outspoken leaders on the issue of gun control and public safety. I sincerely hope that they will make it clear that as long as they remain on the board, StudentsFirst should not endorse candidates that support allowing weapons in schools. Mr. Cosby and Mr. Martin have the power to make a real difference. Please join me in asking them to use their influence to help make our schools safer for our kids.
