  • Tell Wall Street: Stop the J.P. Morgan Loophole
Bankers on Wall Street wrecked our economy by taking reckless risks in pursuit of massive paydays. And, as J.P. Morgan has made clear, Wall Street learned nothing and is still gambling. There's nothing wrong with high-risk trading, but if the bets go bad, only the people who made the bets should have to pay. That's why this gambling should happen in hedge funds, not in the federally-insured banks that families and small businesses depend on. That’s why I successfully fought, with your help, for a ban on high-risk trading by big Wall Street banks. This rule, called the Volcker rule firewall, is meant to ensure that Wall Street’s bad bets blow up, you and I don’t get burned again. But for the last two years, Wall Street's legion of lobbyists have been trying to blow holes in that firewall. Now they want the Fed to write the “J.P. Morgan loophole” into law. We can’t let that happen. Join me in urging Ben Bernanke and the Fed to close down the JP Morgan loophole. Senator Jeff Merkley

  • Election Supervisor Cowles: Defend the right to vote.
The attack on Florida citizens' right to vote has even stopped the respected League of Women Voters from recruiting new voters in Florida. In the last election, when my 84-year-old husband, a regular voter, arrived at our Winter Park polling place, he was told he would not be allowed to vote because he was dead! Someone was deliberately stirring up mischief, using false information to stop certain people from voting.

  • CORPORATION GREED & CONGRESS
It seems to me that Congress is not doing anything about the following: Corporations are behind a lot of the things that is taking our country on a dangerous path. To name a few...They do not want any regulations put on any of thier products which affects our food safety, our drinking water, our earth, etc. Also, they move thier companies to other countries so they can get cheap labor and they do not want to pay thier fair share of taxes.

  • Why the Military Option for Iran Should be off the Table.
As an American citizen I don't feel that we can afford another preemptive war such as the one we initiated in Iraq. We cannot afford it. The military option with regard to Iran should be OFF the table, NOT on the table. Moreover, explicitly taking the military option off the table would give Iran much less of an excuse to behave in destructive ways. Iran's behavior is the result of past western intrusion into its affairs, and the existence of the military option that is on the table.

  • Support authorization of the School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability (SEEQS)
SEEQS’ founding board--a group of committed and experienced educators, parents, and community members--plans to open a free, public charter school in Honolulu in August 2013 that will serve 6th and 7th graders and expand to include 6th- 12th grades by 2018. The mission of the School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability (SEEQS) is to foster lifelong learning among a diverse group of secondary-level students through exploration within authentic learning environments. SEEQS graduates will be stewards of planet Earth and healthy, engaged citizens of Hawaii and the world. SEEQS’ authorization is partly contingent on showing the Public Charter School Commission that there is abundant community support for such a school. Please sign this petition if you would be interested in sending your child to SEEQS and/or if you would support the school opening in the community. Then pass it on to friends and colleagues in the Hawaii community. Mahalo! Please include your city/state when signing so that the Commission can verify that we have *local* community support! Parents: indicate that you are a parent in the comments section—that will strengthen our application! If you are interested in learning more about the school, please visit our website at www.seeqs.org.
