In the wake of the 2016 election, one thing has become increasingly clear: there is a huge problem with the news that tens of millions of Americans get from Facebook. According to a recent Pew poll, 62% of Americans now get news on social media, with Facebook overwhelmingly being the most popular platform. And yet too often it was not news that Americans found on Facebook, but rather fake stories dressed up as the news. Evidence shows that Facebook is riddled with lies. One report even found that teenagers in Macedonia were able to game Facebook and get their Trump propaganda posts shared into the news feeds of millions. Earlier this year, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg sat down with conservatives who complained that right-wing news was suppressed on Facebook. It was after that meeting that Facebook fired their human editors and replaced them all with algorithms. This decision further unleashed fake news on Facebook. A new bombshell report revealed that Facebook knew about the fake news problem and had the ability to do something about it, but declined to fix the issue out of fear that the right-wing would complain. If we have learned anything from the past two decades, it is that it is crucial not to cave to right-wing bullying and manipulations. Despite overwhelming data and insider reporters, Mark Zuckerberg refuses to even acknowledge the problem publicly. (Which is odd given that he was willing to sit down with discredited right-wing misinformers over totally unsubstantiated cries of bias) Join us in asking Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook to take two concrete steps: 1) Acknowledge the problem of the proliferation of fake news on Facebook. 2) Commit to taking action to fix the problem. It’s high time that Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook fix their fake news problem and address the fever swamp/cesspool of misinformation that Facebook has become. If that hurts liberals, so be it. If that hurts conservatives, so be it. If that hurts teenagers publishing fake news in Macedonia, so be it. Let the chips fall where they may. It’s time for the truth to have its day. That’s all we’re asking for.

We have the opportunity to raise up like a Phoenix, or continue to do the same things that got us into this mess. America has voted for change. They wanted Bernie. He is the most popular politician in America. Let the people have Bernie!

Inaccuracy of public information is a misrepresentation of useful crime data, essential to identify and remedy our county's most pressing socio-economic challenges. It is imperative that our leaders have access to precise statistical data reflective of our county's multicultural diversity in order to make the best decisions that impact our society and community. We respectfully demand that an ethnicity column be included within county crime statistics and police affidavits.

Maine just became the first state in the nation to change to ranked-choice voting. This could fix our entire system, especially if it is also used in deciding party nominees. It allows people to vote for 3rd party candidates more safely, without fear of wasting their vote. It is associated with more civil elections. We ask that ranked-choice voting be implemented in all state and federal elections.

American voters have been disenfranchised due to the lack of qualifications required for presidential candidates. Had a minimum qualification requirement been enforced for the 2016 presidential election, a great many of the RNC and DNC candidates would have been disqualified. This would have opened up an opportunity for more qualified candidates, without the harmful effects of personal or professional litigation overshadowing the serious issues of this nation. When minimum qualifications are not met, the policy issues facing our country cannot be discussed on a proactive level, and it hurts our democracy.

A President-elect's denial of climate change is a threat to us all. The Wharton School is the only institution of higher learning which Donald Trump attended (earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968). Consequently, the Wharton School should send a message to Trump that it holds its graduates accountable to accept scientific consensus on climate change.

Steven Bannon is the face of Breitbart News and its leading voice in expressing racist and misogynist hate. There should never be a place in our government for a person representing those beliefs. President Elect Trump has appointed Steven Bannon to White House Chief Strategist. We request Bannon be removed from that role immediately, and disallowed from a role in our democratic government, which represents all people equally.

This is a historic moment where the American people are called to step up against hate. Banish Bannon!

Donald Trump does not represent real positive American values. I believe that he is seriously flawed as a candidate both because of his principles and lack of intellect. There are so many reasons why we should not allow this man to become president. If the politicians won't do it, voters should. There are ways to get recounts on the county levels and we must do so.

With less than 54% of the eligible population voting, not enough people are participating the process. Nothing is ever 100%, but 46% not voting is simply unacceptable. Please sign and share with as many as you can!

A majority of U.S. adults get their news from social media sources. However, there is a proliferation of debunked stories and hoaxes that get "liked" and "shared," and then continue to gain traction. Facebook can and should fact check the articles that circulate on its website. Facebook can simply add a badge to false reports, for example stating whether a shared article is a "Hoax," "Debunked" or "Satire." Even our President-Elect defended retweeting a debunked news story by stating "All I know is what's on the internet" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93fgU_WNDPo It's time for Facebook to let subscribers know the difference between the truth, satire and flat out lies.

I truly believe that the right and duty to nominate a Supreme Court justice belongs to the person who is president at the time the vacancy occurs, and that the Senate's reprehensible tactic to steal this right from President Obama cannot be allowed to succeed.
